Does magicka increase spell damage?

Hi Folks,

Apologies for the noob question but does magicka increase spell damage?

Ive got a ring of willpower with stamina on it (robust) and when I change it to another ring of willpower with magicka (arcane) my spell damage isnt showing an increase in my character stats; the only stat that is showing an increase is my magicka pool.

Im sure I read somewhere that its about 10.45 magicka = 1 SP?

If someone could provide any info on this that would be really appreciated.

Cheers

PS Im on the PS4

More magicka does = more spell damage, but indeed doesnt increase the spell damage value on your character sheet

Thanks Vox ... is that a bug or working as intended?

    It's working as intended.

It doesn't actually give spell damage, but is the equivalent of. So it will never, nor ever should, show an increase in spell damage

It is WAI. More Magicka increases your tooltip damage on your magicka skills.

Magicka increases BASE damage of the magicka-based abilities.
Spell damage increases overall damage. Or something like that.

Ah ok ... so if I look at the numbers within the skill then thats were I will see the increase in damage.

Makes sense - thanks for clearing that up for me guys

I found a thread which suggests 10.46 magicka is the equivalent of 1 spell damage. It was half a year old though so could be a bit outdated.

But yeah, it's not technically spell damage, but your spells will hit harder with more magicka

10.46 magicka = 1 spell damage is still the case

Spell damage on the character sheet is the base multiplier, each spell/skill has it's own damage which is calculated by your base damage and Max magicka and whatever CP you have. Magicka doesn't increase your base damage, rather it increases the spells damage in the tooltip for the spell itself.

The actual damage of a spell is scaled with many different thing such as Spell Damage, maximum magicka, Champion Points, buffs, etc. It's true that higher maximum magicka = higher damage you spells can do.

More magicka = more base magic damage
spell damage in character sheet = bonus damage / multiplier

All parts of damage calculation (base damage + damage increases by amount of magicka, by spell damage, by CPs etc.) result in your tooltip damage.

CPs for example increase your tooltip damage twice, once by the amount magicka gained by "blue" CP Points, and in a second way by adding CPs to specific CP abilities (Elemental Expert, Thaumaturg, Elf Blood)

    Ability dmg = ability coef x (max magicka/stamina x 10.46 + spell/weapon dmg)

Increasing max magicka or spell dmg increases the dmg your skills do.

Keep in mind that this is after all the % multipliers that affect either max magicka or spell dmg.

This is especially important for medium armor builds because they get 12% weapon dmg from MA passives, 8% weapon dmg from Flawless Dawnbreaker on top of the 20% weapon dmg buff from Major Brutality. If you add 129 weapon dmg with a set like 1pc Molag Kena, you effectively increase the weapon dmg by 129 x (1 +0.12 + 0.08 + 0.20) = 181, which is equal to 1895 max stamina. This makes stacking weapon dmg superior to stacking max stamina.

For magicka builds this difference is smaller but also present.
