Imo, characters look best in the character creator. But I think it's all the same, it's just the light(ing) that changes the appearance. Especially in banks, my characters look butt-ugly, but standing towards the sun or a sunset makes them looking a lot better.

They do - character select is stretching my character for example (I have mainly small female characters), which make her look weird, because I have made her to look good at her size. And why do I have to make totally small characters?- Because by a reason female settings end up to look anorexic and the only way to get this somewhat fixed is to create small characters.

It's all about lighting and not having too many negative spaces (deep jowls for example). Best work around for male characters is generally to set the face to full soft on the triangular meter then sharpen the facial features in the other tabs.

The character creation screen is definitely a little misleading.

I often think they look better in the character select screen than in game, but then sometimes I find the perfect spot by chance where my character looks awesome, and it's really just down to lighting, atmosphere, location and time.

Honestly two of my characters look more or less the same either way (though they seem to be more detailed in the character select), but my male Altmer looks a paler shade of gold in-game than he does in the selection screen/did in the character creator. I can find lighting in-game sometimes which makes him as dark as he looks out-of-game, but more often than not he's paler and it irritates me probably more than it should!

Another one I messed up on her hair color, but I think that was my fault for not looking closely enough during creation.

Honestly I always hated the lighting of the character creation screen. I get it, you're in coldharbour, it's dim as crap there. But the lighting changes the way our characters look, between hair color, eye color, and just general body and facial features, you can never be quite sure what they're going to look like in game or in the character select. Hopefully the barber shop provides better lighting so we can get our characters right.

Also, it'd be nice to be able to save character templates, not necessarily to the server but perhaps to our hard drives. That way if we messed up the name or a detail, or just want to make a lookalike of a character, we can without having to spend forever on the creation screen trying to recreate a character.

Yes. My Argonian has really dark skin, and she looked fine in the character creator, but in game it's a little too dark. So much so, that it's hard to see the warpaint.

It's a little thing, but it irritates me. Especially at night or in dungeons where the lighting is so gloomy, you can't make out any facial features at all.
  • ForlornBeliever
The only difference I see is a possible tan in game. That could just be lighting though.

My main impression is that the camera angle is different in Creation than it is in Select and this can significantly affect the way your character appears. For Creation it'd be great if we could move the camera around as we can in game. I do feel the in-game versions of our characters lack some of the detail they clearly have in Creation and Select.

Personally I have found that the lighting does make a difference... but the most annoying things are happening when a character goes in motion, and you notice that some body shape that looked okay at rest is slightly "off" when running or something.

And yes, I wish we could have different lighting options in chargen, as well as some camera movement options, and the ability to play some standard animations, as well as a better way to play voice bits.
    Or character recustomization options.
    Which will come. Eventually.
    But which I want...

Yes! And yes to different lighting options! At the very least we should have an Outdoors Daytime and an Outdoors Nighttime lighting option in Character Creation since these are the 2 things we're in with our characters the most.

Yeah I agree it's really hard to tell how tall your character is really going to be in Character Creation. But how would you solve that?

I too find height to be a little annoying sometimes, even when looking at racial height comparisons online. Mouths and chins give me some trouble too. I made one character that had a sweet slight smile in CC, and had RBF in-game. Just made a newbie the other day focusing on getting the chin perfect, in-game it looks like he was born without a chin :(

Looking forward to the barbershop for sure!

Hmmm... yeah, some kind of "height scale" plopped down next to your character would make a fine addition to chargen... so you can see if your nord is six feet tall, or seven, or if that bosmer you are making is avove or below five feet in height, somnething like that...

It's the light and your point of view. The POV is a bit different in character creation screen than it is on the selection screen, same with in game, just like the light of the surroundings and how it casts shadows.

i dont know what raceyou have gone? i think the more "human" they look the less there is a difference, but my high elf and bosmar are very noticeably different (when not made to look human)

And i think its accentuated on console. The level of detail of the render on character select is so much more than on character creation and in game. and there in lies the problem

They look exactly alike always have always will.

The average person does not know what effects lighting can have on everything. Harsh light / soft light ect.

The fact that most cannot zoom in properly because they don't stand near objects and "manipulate" them to be able to zoom in fully ect. also adds to the confusion.

The reason consoles could possibly have a difference is due to graphics roadblocks.

If you play this on ultra in char creation and in game there is no difference - I play on a massive LED samsung TV and have since launch. I am pretty sure I can see the details better than your small 24" monitors even with "eyefinity" or similar...

I have 20/10 vision. ( not that it matters just saying )

Characters will look 'different' under different lighting conditions. Also theres the matter of movement, animations and PoV. You might think your character looks ripped and athletic in the character creation but when you see him moving in game you might realize he looks a bit chunky or suffers from the skipped leg day syndrome.

No to the delete limit being removed, this is what keeps the gold farmer bot spammers out as well as gold farming bots.
I do say it can be annoying though I can see maybe four delete limits but no the limit has got to stay. I remember it drove them out as soon as they found out how it ruined them and how it was not worth it to do it I think they received a lot of bans and it cost them more money and they closed down shop because they were not receiving more money then what they were forced to pay in order to create new accounts.

All they had to do was put in the delete limit! I was in game at the time I think I saw the last bot spammer post put into the game. Not sure if it was the last one at the time but. It definitely hurt them so badly they no choice but to move on.
So as long as the game remains sub and buy to play the gold spammers will stay out! So long as they don't remove the delete limit.

So based on this perhaps we should suggest the following improvements to Character Creation to ZOS

1.Add freedom of camera movement, same as we have in game.

    2. Add Natural Daylight and Natural Night lighting options.

    3. Add a height scale that will tell you how tall your proposed character actually is.

Anything else? You know, besides MORE hairstyles, makeup, tats, scars and adornments!

I happily disagree. I have played tons of MMO's and this is the only that has a delete limit. Other games have buy to play or free to play models with no delete limit and there are no gold spammers. TESO isn't new anymore, gold spammers are in new games. I'd even be happy if instead of getting 1 delete back per 24hrs, just give all 3 back at once or something. But at this point I think at least giving subscribers more or unlimted deletes is not going to cause a rush of gold spamming.

Are they selling gold in their own shops? Is gold worthless in them? Could be the reasons.

Also, why do you care about the delete limit. Log onto PTS, make as many characters as you want, screenshot the settings in character creation and recreate your char on live. I know its an inconvenience. But its an inconvenience Im willing to tolerate in exchange for goldseller free gameplay.
