Do you pay to play?

Curious as to who is paying to play and how players are accessing the game and it's content. This forum poll is left anonymous for obvious reasons. Please don't comment unless it's constructive. There may be options I haven't thought of so I've included an "other" option too

The reason I'm curious is I recently renewed my sub(after a long hiatus but I still have my 12 month sub reward!) to try out the Orsinium DLC. For various reasons I've decided this really isn't my kind of content so I cancelled my sub right away and I have zero interest in crown store items. This had me wondering how many players are actually continuing to pay the sub and who is paying for DLC outright, or just support the game through the crown purchases.

I subbed for 6 months from pc release, they have enough of my money and will not get any more unless I get an itch to try the orc homeland dlc.

I cancelled my sub just before Wrothgar arrived. I could still do the zone before sub runned out, and the zone was great . I did buy IC with crowns I had. But I won't put another eurocent in this game until the lag/loading screens are fixed.

    - I only want to do PvP and there is nothing worth subbing for (for me).
    - Crown store has nothing I am interested in. Yes I bought the netch pet, but they don't show in cyrodill so I will never see it
    - I looked forward to Thievesguild, but from what I have seen on PTS it's not worth my money.

If the lag was fixed and other problems with the game, they would gain my support again. But until then I enjoy the benefits of a free2play game (yeh it's b2p but I already had it so it's free now for me). Mostly when I try to play after work when I get home I can play for 1-2 hours before the lag gets so bad I log out and play other games. Would be a waste paying for that experience.

I've been paying since launch, nice to know I can go into IC or Wroth in a moments notice and not have to worry if I am subbed or not

    £8 a month is nothing

I subscribed for 6 months and will most likely stay subscribed - crafting bags and more DLCs make subscription more worthwhile over time, so in the end ZOS will get what they want - a lot of subscribers - while no one is forced to subscribe. I will nevertheless continue to buy crowns, if there is enough quality work in the crown store.

True to that. And the money I save from subbing I can use at Starbucks. Or get a nice bucket of KFC.

But it also depends on how much money one makes. You might make shitloads of cash each day while others don't and can play TESO only as a luxury

Depending on how many $15's you spent per month, the price can accumulate. I also sub twice (for me and my wife) for SWTOR and we go to movies, pay hypotheek, have kids etc.. So all those "$15's" that are nothing make up a bigger amount.

So I rather save $15 dollar to use it for something else, like taking my kids to a movie

I was a long time subber but cancelled a little while ago. The only reason I play ESO is for the PVP - why would offering me free DLCs be an incentive when they are mostly PVE content? I just bought IC and cancelled my subscription. Spend enough time there, so it's absolutely worth the purchase, especially considering the state Cyrodiil is in right now. I can't stand it up there.

When they fix the performance issues and buff stam sorcs they can have my money.

Don't hold your breath for that - as long as they do not see, that the problem with lag is a game design issue and not a technical issue, it will not get any better anytime soon. And Mr. Wrobel is not showing that he understands the problem, he is still for not nerfing zergs - so be it, there will be lag for an eternity or until he will finally grasp that zergs are bad.

And how should they nerf zergs? Large battles are one of the big parts of the game. And zergs will always be part of that.
Many people do like the large scale combat.

Now that i'm married with a son i cant go out on Saturday with my friends no more so i have 100€ spared each month and i can throw them in zos pockets ( hoping they will fix something)

But seriously here in Italy 8€ is the price of 2 large beers and quite everyone have it i believe and since zos gives me crowns back for every month that i pay is not a bad deal

I consider this game as still in the status "under construction".
    For at least 6-9 months.
After that the slow maturing can start.

I consider it NOW a great game, and it has the potential to be a fantastic game.

So I heartily support the development with my sub :)

Paying for a subscription. It's not that expensive, and if I should pay for both the imperial, Wrothgar and the upcoming Thieve's guild DLC, the cost for crowns would be a lot higher than subscribing for 3 months or so.

It costs 7500 for the 3 DLC packages, which roughly speaking costs around 32£. A subscription is roughly 8£. So that's around 4 months of subscription, plenty of time to test things out. Beside, you also get a few perks such as some extra crowns in your balance and XP bonuses. Not a bad deal all in all.

There is no hope with a guy as lead designer who has to ask his IT folks which effects his design decisions might have on performance - this is something he should know in order to make viable decisions, but so a blind man is at the steering wheel - sadly enough.

PvP is only useful endgame aspect of ESO anyway
ESO does not have endgame PvE aswell (ditch the single player maelstrom arena)
and im barely playing it because Cyrodiil is either empty or full (full Cyrodiil means 2 seconds delay on any key you click on keyboard or mouse)
so sub/ DLCs purchasing is not needed
if the base game cant deliver endgame for PvE, why bother?

Same here. I don't PvP or play competively so all the issues others claim to have simply don't affect me, indeed I've only had a single broken quest since PC launch and that was instantly fixed by abandoning and re-taking it. The game has otherwise run flawlessly for me since day one. I have a couple of accounts and switch an ESO Plus sub between them according to where I want the free crowns.

I would not be "only" playing PvP if there was something else to do. I did all quests and the game was good in PvE land (only 2 broken quests, including the fun naked jumping in coldharbour and the ghost quest in Glenumbra). But just asking... what do people do in PvE in the end?

I am not a raider. Once in a while is fun, but the same dungeons over and over and gear grind I find boring. I tried PvE, but once there I though to myself "... what the *** is there to do" and I hightailed back to Cyrodill.

Who can give me insight what they do in PvE what makes a sub worthwhile.

Very simple - not rushing through the content - at my current pace I will reach level 50 with my 8 characters in about 13 months and 4 days. So to me there is plenty of content there for years to come, even with the current content.

It's cheaper to purchase a subscription than purchasing the DLC packages, that's justification enough to explore the full content of the game without limitations.
