Helping you optimize your PvE DPS build

Hi Everyone,

Since my passion in this game is endgame PvE DPS, I thought I'd take an initiative and help players who aren't quite where they want to be in terms of PvE DPS.
My focus is on magicka based builds, but should be able to help most people optimize their stamina builds too.

By no means am I saying I'm one of the best players out there, but I know how to pull off the 20-30k+ single target deeps and am happy to share what I know.

Can also confirm that he does very well as DD with any of his chars when i run vet dungeons ect. (almost daily) with him.
As he says hes pulling off 20-30k single target he's definetly not speaking of myths and im not sure why you would assume that he is if u don't even know him.

I'm assuming teh "Advice" will be around :
full gold vr16 gear, somewhere along the lines of Hundings, Julianos, Twice Born, Morkuldin, Magnus, and all the other juicy meta'ish ones, with cheesy builds being, and the actual advises would be like "Oh you slot rending slashes, caltrops, evil hunter, use wep dmg pots and stuff"
Oh i'm also assuming he's gonna be like , Oh you a stamblade/stamdk? you need 2x maesltrom axes with precise / sharpened. and a maesltrom bow with sharpened / precise as well. you also need someone to craft you vr16 gold stuff, (I can, you just pay me the mats), i also haev a buddy that charges 500k gold for a garanteed maelstrom weekly run !

..Am I too far off?

As long as he isnt charging anything for his advice then i see nothing wrong with it. Its nice for new players who feel lost to learn something about how people get big number builds even if its not something they use themselves.

I see no signs that OP wants to charge anything for it. Over time you just learn a lot of things and it's nice to be able to share with others. And I also think there is nothing wrong with recommending sets like julianos, hunding's rage and so on. There is a reason why those sets are used by many players. And since they can be crafted, they are available for anyone. Of course it makes no sense to recommend farming for Maelstrom weapons to someone who is just starting to learn to play his class.
But I hope that OP takes into consideration each player's CP, gear and skill level and adjust his tips accordingly. If he does, it is a good idea and deserves to be supported. I like that idea and if I can help, let me know.

Maybe he doesn't want to write a 2 page post which will be rendered useless by anyone 'differently geared' or with different CP with or without Maelstrom Weapons or whatever and why is it your business?

If it was a SECRET he wouldn't be telling anyone at all. Usually, most people have the best gear etc, just need some tweaks to their rotation, etc.

Don't call elitism where there isn't any.

See my advice for PvE would be:

Try to keep spell damage and magicka regen at a balanced number, sure you can have all traits spell damage, but shen you are on the second mob with no resources you wont make it. Find a balance that works with what gear and abilities you want to use e.g. a lot of heavy costed abilities, use more regen.

Adjust your build for what works for you. I don't care how many builds slot just one shield on the back bar, this actually hampers my playstyle and dps.

For a sorc, the most effective AoE is Liquid lightning etc etc

Of course most seasoned players know this, but I doubt many seasoned players ask. I always love a little insight.

As a sorc playing End Game (so with End Game healers) I would say you're wrong. Go all Spell Damage on Jewelry and All Magicka on AP and Glyphs, as this = higher spell damage.

If you have 100pts in Bastion, you only need one shield not 2+, and if you're in a raid you're better off using Boundless Storm than ward, and there are certain times where Harness Magicka will be better, like on Planar Inhibitor, for example.

Depending on what your Crit is - you would maybe switch to Shadow stone from thief, etc.

Finally, I hardly use LL on AOE stacks (sometimes I use it here and there WITH Ele Ring) because LL is strongest when the synergy is used and when AOEing people aren't using synergies as often. Instead I keep it on bosses as part of my rotation and Tank often synergises.

I realise what I wrote is not complete but then, I am not willing to sit here for hours typing out stuff for different scenarios, etc.

The problem? Not a single magicka regen on anything. My regen on tooltip at highest will be 900ish. There is 0 sustainability and wont work.

Except, in end game stuff, your healer will be running ele drain (and maybe even orbs if you are super lucky) and Aggressive Warhorn and you will be fine. My sorc's regen is not even 900 and I do not run out of mana. If need be, I just work ele drain into my rotation, but thankfully, we have good healers.

My DK's magicka reg is below 800... still I don't run OOM because of almighty elemental drain.

Can you kinda see just by this though, how OFTEN GnG would have to answer stuff if he posted a load of 'One size fits all' DPS advice?

He couldn't account for all scenarios and do real time 'what's your crit now, ok - what's missing? Is all your armor divines? OK...' sort of stuff.

The time it would take having to go back and say 'No I didn't mean, but I meant' would be OMG STAB ME NOW.

actually, on a stam NB, you don't use Maelstrom aggers/axes.

The title of the thread is helping you Optimize. An optimal build will need optimal gear but there's much more to dps than that, such as optimizing your skill choice, and also your skill rotation and when to use light or heavy attacks in between which skills, which skills are worth animation cancelling with block etc.

BTW the last guy I helped was V1 and didn't even talk about gear at this point.

I have no secrets, that's why I created this thread, but it would be virtually impossible to cover every aspect of every possible dps build in this game.
