How hard would it be to have a duelling arena?

It would be great to be able to head into an arena specifically for 1v1's where you could fight off even against people from your own pact just to test your limits against friends characters. Its definitely a feature this game seems to be missing and would get used quite a decent amount.

I don't think it's hard at all...it's just not something they want to do because.......ZOS doesn't want more complaints about lack of balancing in PvP

They go about changes overall instead of having PvP based effects for skills that differ from PvE.
To be honest....that's just one perspective. This thread will be flooded with other reasons unless it's locked beforehand.

Weird because all they need is an empty ring like the arena in Imp City. Judging how the main feature of that DLC is totally busted and they've done nothing to fix it I suppose that time frame could be about right for them with everything they already have to sort out. I mean you cant even walk through the tunnel into MoBals chamber with out a risk of gtting stuck swimming in mid air.

Why everyone thinks it's just flicking a switch and 'poof' we have Arenas I will never understand.

The biggest issue I see will be class/skill balance.

The game is designed for PvE & AvA.... 1v1 will show even more the imbalance between classes.

I feel like they need to achieve a better balance to the existing game before adding further fuel to the balance issues fire.

if you feel like a sorcerer, templar, dk, nightblade is overpowered and classes are unbalanced then duel the person with the same class as you, you obviously choose who you decide to duel, if you don't like pvp and complain about balance and stuff then simply don't do 1v1s and go gank people

Duelling is far more important to the game than say, armour dyeing, Craglorn, or any of the earliest content patches ever was.

It should simply be part of the player character interaction wheel, for any player character on any faction.

Here is the thing about duelling: you don't die. After a fight the looser is left at 1 health - alive. Currently a MASSIVE amount of pvp pts testing happens in Cyrodill as a crude form of duelling between two characters of apposing factions. I am sure I speak for many when I say this is a bit of a mission compared to how easy it would be to just duel outside your faction's main city without any deaths.

Duelling already happens but it is not a pretty affair.

Dueling would have to also be reward less. It'd be open to more abuse than anything else. That's after the world cries over everyone being op (I call it better than them). Nerf threads will set zenis servers on fire.

It would be very easy. Just add a door to an instanced arena, like, say, in some outlaw refugee (fight club, anyone?)...

I like watching people dueling — or at least trying to — outside the arena in Imperial City.

'Tis fun to sit down in a crowd of blues, reds and yellows, all peacefully co-existing as fists and weapons fly between the duelists.

Then, of course, an aggressive player (or more) comes along and all heck breaks loose.

It is good fun. Obviously there are balance issues but none we arent already aware of so that shouldnt be anymore of a problem. What I would really like though is to duel with friends characters who are on my side just to put each others builds to their limits.

Balance shmalance. By the time they fully balance this game and everyone stops crying (I'm a magplar who had overcome the odds so I got street cred) I'll be in a nursing home.
Just give us a darn arena first then worry about balance later.
It's not just gonna poof into existence obviously, but at least try to get it by the end of the year.

Well my argument for balancing would be that many people have a 2nd character sorc or nightblade and theres only one reason that is. I don't really have to say more than that when it comes to balancing. So really even without a duelling arena the balance issues are pretty clear already.

The good thing with an inter alliance duelling arena is that it brings some much needed friendly competition with the people you actually play with on the game within your alliance so its another really fun way to bring people together and also test each others builds. They don't even need to provide any rewards for this feature because it's just a friendly competition and the real competition will still be out there in Cyrodiil.

I dont do PvP but it would be great to watch it.It would be fun if we could go into some bleachers, like in the arenas in ancient Rome, and sit to watch the events of the day!

What ifsay two sorcs cast light or heavy attacks at same time makes their staffs link and start a epic battle feild duel where no on could attack them while they fight and its just like two heros are duelling it out on the battlefield same as if two stam light or heavy attack or you block a staff

I will just copy my post from another thread:
Everything people say is just speculation with a very high emphasis on the _my ego_ subject. As you look at the game from your own perspective it is very subjective.

Ideally with PvP we are talking about 1x1 scenarios as 2x2; 3x3 will be just too much of a RNG.

So, let's us look on the core of 1x1. We have stamina and magicka builds (in general, but for now lets just take a look on match ups in classes) with 4 classes and a lot of races (let's not take in to consideration races as it has very minor impact and people can optimise race selection to suit their preferred class and playstyle).
That leaves us with 6 match ups for classes and (Sorc vs NB; Sorc vs DK; Sorc vs Temp and etc) excluding mirror match ups (Sorc vs Sorc) as they do not have an impact on the balance.
When the arena will go live and players start PvPing on the arena 1x1 - it will show a totally new perspective on the overall picture of match ups.
From there you can observe match up statistics for 99% players and 1% of elite. Obviously you need to make PvP arena something like a "ladder" when you get points for winning and lose points for losing and as you advance you get matched with similar players to your level.
If you can see that DK has a win rate of 60% against NB, then obviously there is imbalance in this match up and it requires some changes to take effect. On the other hand if the win rate of DK vs NB is around 51% than obviously nothing requires any amendments.

I do understand that it comes to stamina/magicka builds and it would have to be in consideration for a proper statistical report on current balance, but it would require a lot of time for the arena to work for ZOS to be able to get something that can be worked on.

Otherwise the overall game balance is influenced by a few people that have access to the forum, which from a statistics point of view is incorrect.

P.S. it is just my IMHO.

A stone circle would do, to be honest, with a small hub of stalls and what not. You could call it a PVP community area. It can't be that hard as I've seen it done in other games.... well one game. In WoW (and other games) you had the opposite though. Area's that you could not duel in, which is more or less the same thing.

I don't think you necessarily need a ladder or anything for a duelling area. The main argument I hear in favour of bringing in duelling is to be able to test builds and fighting skills against friends you play with on your own side. Borderlands had something similar to this where you could just trigger a duel anywhere in the world and it just put you in a small circle to fight it out. If the game even had something like that it would really be a great thing and much more simple to do than worrying about making it competitive and bringing in rankings. Last thing we want is in alliance rivalries which rankings may cause. Better to just keep it to friendly duelling I feel.
