Get Heavy Armor or switch to a Tank

Im a vet 9 dual wield dk dark elf a use 7/7 med armor. As I progress, I get killed by enemies too often and its WAY worse in pvp(my record is 8 seconds). I was thinking of switching to a tank but I dont know if my dmg will be sufficient for 1v1 battles. I also dont know if all heavy will work (since i'll lose the dmg bonus from medium armor). Should I switch to Tank, switch to all heavy armor, or stay the course.

Once you get the "Undaunted Mettle" passive (for completing general dungeon achievements, doing dungeons and fulfilling pledges); you'll get bonus health, magicka and stamina for having all three armor types on.

So what I would do is wear a heavy chest for bonus protection, maybe a light belt or some other small piece, and the rest medium. Should help with your survivability and not sacrifice too much damage.

Also if you go full tank you'll hit like a wet noodle, and you'll have to level sword and board.

Not necessarily, you can be spec'd as a dps (high weapon damage & resource pool) and carry s&b on your back bar for extra survivability.

As @FriedEggSandwich said not necessarily, however I wouldn't use it as your main source of damage as that set up is sacrificing damage for survivability - hence why tanks use it. Your duel wielding would be better for straight damage, I have a sword and board tank and she manages to kill a lot less with it than my duel wielder in pvp. Her survivability is much better, but I can't really judge properly by how much at the moment since my stamblade has little to no self-heals at present.

Also consider the passives. Basically, duel wield has increase damage, increase damage, lower ability cost, increase damage and increase damage.

Sword and board has reduce ability cost, increase damage and block capacity, improve bash attack, increase block capacity, and increase movement speed while blocking.
