I've played ESO since the console launch, back in June. My main character is a Templar. My DPS is only good enough for normal dungeons, so my Templar is a healer. I've healed 40+ Veteran dungeon runs and have two monster sets. I've made friends, I've even played with other factions in dungeons. One guy once said, "I'd hate to run into Spider's group in Cyrodiil."
So by now, as you may imagine, I have an opinion about what's been done to Breath of Life.
It hurt a bit, but not much. I heal in what I think of as layers, with Restoration Staff abilities, a Stamina replenishing ability, and Breath of Life if that isn't enough. I've never slotted Healing Ritual for any serious activities, because the cast time and small radius were noticeable to me even in my very earliest days, when I wasn't knowledgeable about combat mechanics. So naturally, considering all that's been done to the Templar class, I tuned in to ESO Live yesterday (02/12/16) to see if anything else was in store for Templars. Admittedly, I was a bit disappointed with what was outlined. However, something was mentioned: Classes were originally intended to be cool, and different from each other.
Dragonknights fly with those awesome dragon wings at targets, Sorcerers bolt escape, Nightblades can cloak, and Templars can pray/meditate/do something for 1.5 seconds that eventually heals you. Culturally, we don't meditate or pray in any such activity in the midst of danger, and we certainly don't want to get killed in the middle of it. But we're Templars, we call on our inner reserves and unleash our righteous healing upon all around us. Even if we get killed while doing so?
No. I propose a simple change to Healing Ritual: Give the cast time a purpose. Even a slight purpose. Let surrounding allies benefit from Minor Mending, or Minor Intellect, or any Minor buff, until the final heal activates. If not that, a simple armor boost for the Templar caster would work wonders. If a simple change is not applied to Healing Ritual, I cannot justify slotting it over another healing ability.
Thank you for reading the opinion of this humble Templar.
