Lore wise, which classes fit which races the most?

lorewise none of the 4 classes would be old... vanus galerion (you know that annoying fellow of the ad which has his 3 essences seperated in coldharbor) made the mages guild and made magic accessable to all men and mer. but to be honest lorewise these classes don't really excist as far as i can tell

Lore wise, and not taking into account ESO racial passives etc., then IMO:

NB:
Khajiit (because being slightly sketchy and sneaky is part of their culture)
Bosmer (because they are small and nimble, and good with bows)

Sorc:
Altmer (they are the race with most magical prowess and interest)
Bretons (their ancient elf blood makes them skilled with magic)

As for Templar and DK, I don't really see anyone fitting better than another, because they are quite mixed classes. DK is primarily a quite "tanky" class, so it would fit well with Nords, Orcs, and Imperials. But Templar can both be a tank and a healer, so that's quite a toss up (the healer part of the class fits with any magically inclined race, but also Argonians, since they are adept with natural magics, anti-poison, and healing).

It is not that easy to tell, because even the same race was quite different in different TES games. For example female Argonians in Oblivion were quite decent magic users, while being just average in what their male counterparts were good at. It can be said for Altmer and Breton, those had always a strong tendency to magic, just like Khajiit had always a strong tendency to being stealthy. Nord and Redguard had always a strong tendency towards being warriors. But like I pointed out, in Oblivion these things differed a lot based on the chosen gender (what I liked a lot, btw).

disagree on NB just dunmer there where many classes which were good with stealth. Khajiit, argonian (shadowscale), bosmer and you could put dumner in here but not as sole race.
Templar also argonian because their natural connection to the hist and mending it. Nords aswell because always strong in heavy armor up close combat while healing
sorc altmer and breton let's not forget they are partially the same.
DK more dumner then anything. nords have no connection to the dk only that's bulky? nords have no affenity with fire

Idk why but I think templars fit the high elves more, and sorcerers fit better for the bretons?

high elves where always weaker to magicka and restoration was the only magic class they didn't get a boost in. Although im not sure this was in skyrim aswell. if wrong correct me

Redguards would likely be Dragonknights. Since the description of DK is:

"These skillful masters-at-arms use the ancient Akaviri martial arts tradition of battle spirit..."

Altmer had just magic boni and for all schools in Skyrim, with a focus on illusion, while Bretons had a focus on conjuration.

DKs would be Nord or Akaviri.
Its mentioned in in-game books that DKs believe their powers come from those who defeated the dargons long ago. However the tradition of DKs has only spread since the fall of the Akaviri Potentates so it seems possible it may've been an Akaviri tradition originally.

The other 3 I'd surmise go back a long while probably to the Aldmer who are often claimed to be the 1st people on Nirn to become technologically sophisticated. Although classes aren't technology I'd argue a sophisticated society would be required to support the degree of specialisation found in a class.

It's difficult to lock the races into 1 or 2 classes that they are suppose to be "best" at. Any racial passives bonus are not really that importaint, yes the passives help alittle, but nowhere near as much as the cp points do.

Lore wise I'll give a few examples of npcs I've run into in ESO. (Players don't count because they can be whatever they want, and usually are.)

Redguards avoid magic as much as possable, and yet I've run into a few shamen/priest types, (usually Redguard women), who are pretty good at either soceror or templer magic.

Argonians seem to excel at shamen type magic, (sorc or templer healing), and are really good at stealth/assassin types, (Shadowscales). Yet I've run into and been killed by some very tough warrior (DK) Argorians in a few quests.

Khajiit are usually thought of as primarly NBs, but you'll find Khajiit Enforcers/Sheildwalls (DK), and Invokers/Pyromages (sorc) all over the place. And towards the end of the AD main quest in Reapers March, you'll team up with the Khajiit sisters. One is a very powerful mage and the other is a very skilled fighter(DK).

So the races may have certain skills that make them alittle better in some classes, but being in a society, they have skilled people filling other roles (classes) also.

- Altmer (excel with magicka-based skills)
- Breton (magic resistance and conjuration skills)

DragonKnight
- Redguard (warriors who excel with Sword/Shield)
- Orc (strong front line damage and power)
- Nord (tough warriors)
- Dunmer (hardened/survival race who use destruction/fire magic)

Templar
- Imperial (closest definition to a knight as possible in TES lore)

I've got to agree with the Breton Templar especially. The caste nobility of Breton court and the politics of using military might for social and political ends matches the lore nicely.
