Wanting advice on a one hand+sheild/bow combo

BurSkills
Hey all, so i played this game a few months back but must have restarted at least 5 times due to not finding a build i favoured. I am due to start from scratch this evening so am doing a lot of research into the pros and cons of different builds.

Im leaning towards a one hand+shield/bow combo as i think its quite versatile so therefore quite entertaining having range capabilities aswell as CQC.

Am i correct in believing that i will need to lean towards stamina and medium armour to better utilise the weapons skills?

Which class/race would better compliment this setup so i can be competitive? To hazard a guess i would say Redguard for stam/one hand+sheild boost?

Im also having trouble understanding how the class traits work, DK/Templar skills look pretty cool, but they all use magicka so would have to spend skill points on mana which i feel would dilute my character too much. A jack of all trades but a master of none if that makes sense?

Sorry for all the questions! Want to make sure this time i dont fall out of love with the game because i choose the wrong setup.

Thank you!

    Hi,

Yes it is advisable to go stamina if you intend to use the weapon skills for these weapons,
Yes Medium armour has the most benefits for a stamina build.

You are not limited to a class if you wish to use this setup,
however there are probably classes that are better equipped like the NB..

Race you would probably want to go redguard, Woodelf, Khajit or orc...

Do not choose a race purely for the boost to bow/shield/dualwield..... this maxes out quickly and is kind of a waste...

Ok thats great, could you elaborate a bit on why the NB would better benefit my build? Is that because the skill trees for the NB use stamina too? So i could focus my points on stamina and benefit much more? Effectively neglecting magicka.

NB has some nice buffs to damage like relentless focus that you would need to use a 2H weapon to get..

I think also that most of the NB skills have a magicka and stamina based option...
also NB with a bow from stealth, back into shadowy disguise, using shades, blur to reposition when you are seen... so many options for being a stealthy killer...

with sword and shield, stealth, fear and ransack.. op as hell.

I have seen templars rocking some similar builds, also dk's and even sorcerers....

Don't feel that you can only do this build on a NB.. I used to love NB's but lately have really taken to playing a Templar...

Ok i see. So if i was to use a Templar/DK would it be feasible to spend points on magicka for their skill trees as well as spending points on stamina for my weapon skill trees? Or would that make my character too underpowered as im not focusing on one area?

Looking on other posts they advise focusing on one area as opposed to developing a class tree and then a couple of weapon trees, but surely that makes a build too lateral with not much diversity? This is what im having trouble getting my head around.

Some abilities have stamina morphs, making them scale off stamina and weapon damage and cost stamina. You might want to look into those. For example, as a templar you can morph puncturing strikes into biting jabs, which is usually the main damage ability of a stamina templar. As a DK, you can morph the second and third ability in ardent flame to stamina as well.

Splitting points between magicka and stamina will make the abilities of both kinds much weaker. I suggest you either go one way, or another.

The "race is good with x equipment" isn't something you need to think of when making your character . The 15% increase in experience is way less significant than the rest of the bonuses of a race.
That said, redguard is a great race for anything stamina. Another race for consideration is imperial. Look up racial passives. Anything that gives max stamina is decent.

Generally one hand+shield is used for tanking. I would suggest you stay away from 1h/s unless you're either magicka or a tank, as the weapon abilities don't deal very much damage.

Almost all class abilities are magicka(the only stamina class ability I can think of is the dark exchange from sorcerer). Bow users tend to use nightblade for grim focus. DK and Templars don't have much in terms of buffs or damage that benefit a bow.
