Ramdisk Questions

I don't have 40+gbs to ramdisk the entire eso...so is there Anything I can ramdisk in eso? or other files to make things go a lill faster? like maybe the addons? (i think they're already on the ram but i might be mistaken)

Currently I have eso on a ancient HDD all by itself, and some of these load screens can be troublesome, my harvest maps lags me out a bit if im on a map where I have like 500 nodes showing, and master merchant lags me out when I first log in for like 20 seconds.

I'll be using ROG Ramdisk utility, so unless a black out happens eso will be perfectly fine, because it backs it all up when I go to restart. Anyway, I know the best thing I can do is get a SSD and put it all on that, however, I'm saving up for Polaris, so yeah. thats out of the question atm.

Just wondering if anyone has toyed around with it and what they have found out.

System Specs:
Cpu: i7 4790k @4.93ghz - Delided
CPU cooler: Swiftech H-140x
Ram: 2133 9-11-11-27 16gb
OS: windows 10 pro
GPU: gtx 650 (hence the saving for polaris haha)
7 HDD's all running on ancient 5400 rmps haha
Benchmarking: 63 celsius
Gaming temps: 45 celsius
Idle: 30 celsius
Ambient: 22 celsius

That is normal for harvest map and Master Merchant. Your not going to fix anything with those by throwing more hardware at it. Turn down some of the nodes you are tracking, and with Master Merchant, well, just accept the lag as it initializes.

The game only is currently 32 bit, so a RAM Disk is not going to help with anything if you have more than 4 GB of system memory, and it sounds like you do. Even with the 64 bit client, it's not going to help.

However, once thing you can do to your rig to speed up gaming is to get an SSD. 5400 RPM drives are not doing you any favors. Even if the RAM Disk was successful, and it's a pain to use on Windows 7 as you have to initialize everything on boot, RAM Disk is not really viable now like it was in XP and earlier OS's

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Thanks for the reply. Idk if it would work. but perhaps putting addons onto to ramdisk and a few other select folders might* work by using the "junction" thingie in ROG ramdisk. I know in somethings I've been testing out today it does wonders. As for the client being 32bit till next major patch, I understand it is limited to 4gbs, But if I theoretically had say... 64gbs of ram, I could put all of eso on it, and be just fine. But I don't so point is mute. it would be way faster then SSD if I had that kinda ram tho haha.

Anyway I was wondering if there was anyone out there that has toyed around with it. Like throwing addons in it, maybe some character information/textures, and little things that may speed it up, something around 10gbs or so?

ESO doesn't actually have a whole lot to load when loading in. Open up Resource Monitor and watch your disk activity when loading ESO or on a loading screen from zone to zone. Here is mine when loading from character screen into Wrothgar:

    dd3b5a71cb.png

It spikes up to about 320MB/s for about three seconds and in total probably does ten seconds of "real" loading, the rest is network. A RAM disk won't really change it as the majority of loading time is network based, not hardware based.

Replace your ancient HDDs with a decent SSD and you will be fine, RAM disk is a bad idea.
