NB Magika Build

Hi Guys,

So I've just hit level 40 and want to start levelling up the skills I'm going to be using in PvP. I have been levelling Dual Wield and Bow but would prefer to run the Dual. What skills would I need to level? Should I respec and take a 2h? What are your thoughts on the best way to pivot in a good direction so I'm not having to carry on through vet levels with a irrelevant skill base.

To answer the question, as a magblade, you will want to level up light armor, restoration staff, destruction staff and dual weild. That will give you a goid base to start with. Also work on mage guild and undaunted. Alliance war skill lines such as assault are important too.

Once you get the Undaunted passives and have enough skill points feel free to get the medium and heavy passives. Every little bit helps right?

As for class skill lines Siphoning will be the most important but dont neglect the other two. As said before its better to lvl up ALL skill lines so you have more options open to you.

On a magicka build you have 4 weapon choices: destro, resto, DW and S&B.
You want high spell dmg, max magicka, magicka regen and spell crit.
Bows scale off stamina and weapon dmg so it will do very low dmg.

For pvp most magicka NBs are running DW/resto setup because DW gives 5% flat dmg bonus to attacks/heals.
Destro/resto can also be good to proc Merciless Resolve with destro staff attacks.

As a mag. build, the only skill I really use in the DW skill line is the Twin Blade and Blunt passive, which will increase your weapon damage with swords equipped. This will also increase your spell damage by the same amount, even if it is not expressed on the tooltip. If you're running magicka with DW bar, you'll get increased spell damage from your magicka-based spells like concealed weapon, funnel, sap essence, lotus fan, and anything else you might think of putting on there.

I know there are some magicka builds that run with a bow in PVP, mostly for the Hasty retreat bonus. As a magblade you'll also have a lot of points in thaumaturge, which would increase any poison abilities that you might choose to unlock (making skills like poison injection a pretty sick execute). Still, if you're a mag build, you'll probably not have the biggest stam pool and you'll have to compensate for that somehow.

Typically, a lot of magblades will run DW/resto staff or DW/destro staff, or even resto/destro. It is all largely dependent on your playstyle, but it never hurts to level up as many skill lines as you can if you ever want to consider a respec.
