Why did my Focus Rating Significantly Drop on PTS?

So I just tested my character out on PTS. VR 16 NB. I didn't change any CPs or remove any gear. I wear all Light Armor.

My focus rating from live dropped from 13141 to 5220 on PTS. My spell damage from swallow soul dropped from 7492 to 5966 un-buffed. Same type of drop for sap essence.

Is this a stealth nerf? I don't recall seeing anything in the patch notes stating that focus rating, or direct damage values for skills (e.g., swallow soul or sap essence) would be re-adjusted. It is probably not specific to just those two spells either.

I know they changed the spell erosion tree to increase the value of Spell Penetration by 167% to counterbalance the Spell Resistance granted by Spell Shield. Does that have anything to do with the drop?

The focus rating on live is not an accurate representation of your spell penetration because it adds 10/20% of your resistance and 1% for Sharpened/Nirnhoned and an additional ~120*Level is added if you have at least one point in Spell Erosion because Spell Erosion gives flat penetration equal to 120*Level*Spell Erosion Tooltip. In other words, it is really messed up. You can used @coolmodi 's addon Mitigation Percent to make sense of the messed up Focus stat and turn it into something more reasonable.

I'm guessing that the changes to Spell Erosion to make it more intuitive has led to the change in your Focus rating.

I'm not aware of any changes to Swallow Soul.

Prior to this, you only needed to invest 1 point in Spell Erosion to get around 13k penetration! Awesome and a bug.

They've fixed this now and so your Focus rating has dropped back to what it should be with one point allocated to Spell Erosion. I think that's a good thing!

Given all the other changes and fixes to the CP trees this is just another factor to consider when you respec your CP allocation.

Well I guess everyone will be experiencing a massive DPS decrease when PTS goes live, to accurately reflect how SP should be... Don't think I saw this in patch notes. I submitted a ticket on PTS for clarification.

I thought they fixed that 1 point erosion bug a few patches ago...

Noone will get a DPS decrease. The old focus ratings were completely incorrect. (and spell erosion and its weapon counterpart near useless)
Only thing changing will be the tooltip value of focus rating in a bugged addon.......

Note that penetration from CP is not correct with the addon on PTS! It now gets applied correctly to the stat even without my addon.
If it goes on life I will update the addon to reflect that change, but right now on PTS it will not work right with any points in the penetration CP perks!

Exactly, I think mine is the only addon that shows the real values the game uses for damage calculation. Others just use the messed up stat as reported by the game.

On PTS the CP perks will now add what they say correctly to the stat, before they added 120*lvl+(100*percent in tooltip). My addon removes that and adds the correct value (percent in tooltip*120*lvl). On PTS that will cause it to reduce the flat penetration when adding points in.
