I don't understand it at all. Is it when you research stuff or does it have to do with the color of the item?

Please explain.

Some craft-able set pieces can only be crafted if you have a certain number of traits researched on that armour type.

For example Hunding's rage requires 6 traits researched. So in order to create a Hunding's rage helmet in any kind of trait or type, you would need to have 6 traits researched in that kind of helmet to make one.

It doesn't have anything to do with the colour of the item, no

It's when you've researched all 9 available traits for an item. The number of traits you have researched for a particular item determines which special crafting stations you can use to craft a set piece.

For example, if you want to craft a piece from the Hunding's Rage set, you need to know 6 or more traits for the particular piece you're crafting (helm, gloves, whatever). If you want to craft a piece from the Death's Wind set, you only need to know 2 or more traits for that item. If you want to craft a piece from the Armour Master set, you need to know all 9 traits for that item.

Traits refer to the modifiers of armors when you craft them, such as Training for XP boost the the armor/weapon skill line, Precise for Increased Critical Hit Chance, etc.

Most players that look for crafters with X number of traits is to have them craft specific gears, in which to do so requires the minimum prerequisite. For example, Death's Wind set requires a player to have at least 2 traits already researched on that specific part (e.g. 2 traits researched on chest) in order to craft that set's chest piece.

    Hope that helps.

It means a long time spent researching.

That's very very true. But it's so satisfying to be completely done with all of your research and have 9 traits on everything...

pointless, thats what it is. not like the 9 trait armor is even powerful enough to justify it. half the traits are useless anyways

It depends on the set. Most of the really good ones require 6 traits or fewer. Armour Master is IMO by far the best crafted set for tanking, though, and it's a 9-trait set.

Just a warning that learning all 9 traits on an item will take a long, long, loooong time (months) so it's a good idea to always have something researching!
