Shield overflow is it still bugged?

If I use hardened on weapons does the rest of the damage still hit me unmitigated? I have been reading that the first part of the shield just absorbs the damage but if the hit is more than the shields value then I received the rest without factoring any resistances in, is this still true to this day?
