hard work vs bad luck

This is a concept that is too easily confused here.

Running the same dungeon x times for x set to drop in a random encounter is not hard work, that is *** luck.

Running extremely difficult content and clearing it for x chance at x gear is hard work.

Repeatedly doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overover and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and overover and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over is not hard, it is tedious, annoying and boring.

If I was required to learn a new dungeon that was taxing on my abilities as a human in reaction time as well as my abilities as a gamer and that dungeon was so hard that a small % of people could actually complete it.

If I ran that dungeon so many times I got it beat and then got my gear and it was awesome, thats hard work.

Burning through a vet dungeon farming helmets is not hard, it's annoying.

These are not the same thing, so to say "I worked hard" at getting good luck, how is that even possible?

The result of a terrible loot system that is based completely on RNG, people can run something an infinite amount of times and never get the item they want. Even worse is that they don't even become closer to getting that item with each run.. their odds are the exact same the 200th run that it was the 1st.

This makes me think. Would it be possible for ZOS to implement an achievement that tracks down the number of dungeon runs for each dungeon, and that slightly increases the chances of dropping monster helms with each run/achievement tier?

Like how the chances of dropping laurels increase with your character's knowledge of the mercenary motif.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

Or, how about actually fixing the whole damn thing entirely by adding a "Dungeon Mark" system. You know, where you earn dungeon marks from running them and spend those marks on gear you are in search of?

But no, let's further tweak RNG.

Sure, a token system like GW2 has (although their dungeon equipment isn't BiS) would be fine too.

It is just that RNG doesn't need to be this frustrating. It doesn't need to have several layers. It doesn't need to have no progression to the odds.

And there is a similar system in place already, so there's that.

(also, no need to get your panties in a twist, it was just a suggestion since the other guy complained that the odds are the same no matter how many times you ran the dungeon, geez).

RNG is fine for games like Diablo 3, where it's expected and intended. No mystery there. However, in an MMO it should be minimized, especially when the chances of getting what you need are broken down into not only the piece itself, but the attributes AND armor type. It's why I just didn't care about any of this hunt and am perfectly fine with fully crafted gear.

I suppose for these reasons, I don't understand what all the crying is about with people demanding that these monster sets not be sold. Luck had all the involvement in getting these and not "hard work" as was pointed out.

So because you were lucky, and some other poor guy/gal wasn't, eff them and "it's not fair"? Gimme a break.

It's why MMOs in general went the way of the amusement park. Nowadays, games like UO would make people straight-up murder others. Want to talk about fair? Go play on a free shard and acquire a dose of humility.

Additionally, with games like ESO, WoW, and about any other in existence, lots of tears come in the form of "players keep mob-stealing, that's not fair" or "stealing my chest while I'm fighting another mob is unfair", or even "Don't sell my item I earned through immense luck in a store, it's not fair".

i have to say i'm not against the set's being sold i'm being against that they will be alot easier to obtain in PvP with the correct trait then doing the content where it drops. Lower the RNG droprate in dungeons and it's even. now it's weird the additinal way of getting it is easier then the way it was designed of getting it

I see that the topic upsets you so I won't answer to the rest of your post. I actually agree with the OP (that "insightful is mine), and I agree with the monster sets being sold.
People are frustrated because the RNG in this game is really frustrating. It is understandable. I usually have really bad luck myself, and never got a single drop I could use (it is well-fitted festival baby!), so I will most likely buy the monster sets. If the RNG wasn't so frustrating, maybe people wouldn't be crying about the monster set being sold. That's all I'm saying :T

    So true^

RNG is idiotic system its only good for cosmetic items which they dont have any impact on gameplay.

    Unfortunatly ESO community loves RNG.

"That is why we admire makeup artist and creature creator Rick Baker very very very very very very very very very very very very... very very very very much. 100 words on the dot. You can count them if you want."

The main problem with the ESO "end game" is that people are spoiled by games like WoW where there is a TON to do. Dungeons. Heroic dungeons. Mythic dungeons. Raids. Raid finder. Normal, Heroic, and Mythic raids. Then if you get bored, SOLO RAIDS for xmog gear (ZOS doesn't even HAVE an xmog system).

So much quality of life content missing. But that all takes time and more importantly, INVESTMENT.

So, they do what most publishers do and fill in the gaps with GRIND. Which just burns people out, but at least it keeps them around longer than if they just reached the end of the content.

More alt slots and a character re-customizer would help, as would a focus on end-game content that was fun, and not tailored so much to "hardcore" or "grind grind grind," both of which are an extreme minority of people that find such content "fun."

    The game is still young.

    In UO?

Create your character. Log in. Decide to start exploring the country side.

You: "Ah! What's this? Another player? Let's go say 'hiya!'"

Slam. Slam. Fizzle. Burn. Ouch. I'm dead.

You: Wait, did they just take all my stuff? Umm.. did they just kill all the healers in the area too so I can't get a rez? F***.

Other player's response: "F***ing welcome to UO. NOOB"

Right up until UO made a newb friendly area and most of the hardcores quit.

    So true^

RNG is idiotic system its only good for cosmetic items which they dont have any impact on gameplay.

    Unfortunatly Zenimax loves trolling.

Fixed that for you ;) I have neve once met anyone on this forum or ingame that has not agreed that the RNG in this game is crap.
