Suggestion - Treasure Maps

Hi Guys,

This has probably been suggested before but....

Treasure Maps could be a huge gameplay mechanic...but who cares about them in their current state?

The way treasure maps are curently implemented where there tends to be no risk or challenge which makes it boring.

The few I have found require me to go out of my way for what usually results in very little/poor loot.

My suggestion would be to take a leaf from Ultima Online and how they manage treasure maps.

Each map comes with its own level and when you dig it up it spawns appropriately levelled mobs (possible via a gate) with the loot in the chest proportionate to the chest difficulty.

The more difficult chests could require a group to complete. You could even make them so that until you read the map you don't know what level it is and while in the unread state the map could be traded, once read it binds to the reader and must be dug up by that person creating an interesting economy and something to do at endgame other than run dungeons/trials etc.

Maybe even have legendary maps that spawn a major mob, who knows, just throwing ideas out there.

I just think that in its current state treasure maps are a wasted opportunity.

Thought?
