buffs, morphs, and how they work/stack

this is on my Stamina Nightblade

I have a 2h and dual weild bars

my 2h has Rally, Mark, Camouflaged Hunter, Wrecking blow + whatever I'm leveling - weapon is a 2h sword

my other bar is Dual Weild with twin daggers, or twin axes - has ambuish, surprise attack, steel tornado + whatever I am leveling

my question is, for example, when I switch to 2h bar, I put buffs on - all of them - but how exactly do they stack? as in, Reapers Mark gives you more health on kill, and gives you 25% bonus damage - that's major bonus to damage there, even if its for 5 seconds, for a burst in damage that's pretty good? but someone told me to take other morph because its better - but when I look at the card it only has heal stat that doesn't even match the Reaper?

then I read about people combining skills that don't make any sense to me and able to put out major damage, or get heals by having a certain buff up, but I cant seem to replicate those effects when I try them

now I am new, I am learning, I am doing OK, but Id like to be able to spend less time dead when running a Dungeon

so how do I make sure I pick the right skills that synergize well together? how do these buffs work exactly? do they stack, or is there a cap on these stacks?

like there is a skill in Nightblade tree that lets you siphon Vigor from enemy, and it gives you major brutality increasing your damage by 20%, is that 20% only on marked target? or anything as long as that target is alive? is that 20% + other buffs I have active?

I am not asking for a build for me, I am just wanting to learn more on how skills synergize together to make sure I am more efficient at what I am supposed to do as a Stamina Nightblade - be a monster DPS

does anyone understand what I am trying to ask? if not, please ask and I will try to clarify whatever is not clear, I am having a ton of fun playing as a Stamina Nightblade in PVE, so I am interested in becoming a better more efficient addition to any group

thanks guys !

You should go through all your passives and active skills and see what they buff. For example the last skill in the siphoning tree (forget what it's called sap essence or drain essence something like that) gives a buff called major brutality that increases weapon damage by 20%. Momentum/Rally in the two handed skill line gives the same major brutality buff. You can only have 1 active at a time they don't stack if they have the same name. So having both equipped may be redundant.

But let's say you use the 3rd skill in the assassination skill line, it grants a buff called major evasion that increases dodge chance by 20%. If you use that then rally/ momentum you have major brutality and major evasion. They both work on you because they have different effects/names.

There are also both major and minor buffs. For example having flawless dawnbreaker morph of fighters guild skill line ultimate equipped gives you minor brutality which increases your weapon damage by 8%. You can have any buffs up and should try to have as many relevant buffs up as you can. So you can use rally along with the slotted buff from dawnbreaker to have both major and minor brutality up at the same time.

In some cases it might pay to have multiple skills that give the same buff for different uses. For example some people run both the assassination major evasion skill morph that gives major expedition (40% speed boost) and crippling grasp( 40% speed boost with snare on target) because the speed boost from crippling grasp requires a target while the boost from the assassination skill doesn't. They don't stack but are used in different situations.

Buffs solely work on you or if the ability/passive says also allies. Debuffs work on the enemy. So for example you can have the major brutality buff up on yourself and the increased dmg taken debuff on the enemy and they both stack but not additively. The buff on you helps against all enemies you fight while the rebuff only effects the enemy. So if you use the assassination ultimate on an enemy and then your friend attacks the enemy, the enemy will take increased damage because of the debuff even if your friend wasn't the one who put the debuff on.

If you are on PC, a buff tracker addon like Srendarr can definitely help you keep track and start to get a sense of the timing on reapplying your buffs.

That said, if you are dying a lot in dungeons and that wasn't just hyperbole, it is probably more about your positioning and avoiding taking damage than your buffs. (Assuming the tank is doing her job and keeping the more dangerous NPCs occupied.)

If fights are taking too long and your group dies from lack of resources or is overwhelmed by mobs, then your DPS may be too low and benefit from better use of your skills. If addons are an option, FTC or AUI can track your damage and give you an idea where you are at and what works better. They also track buffs and debuffs, I just personally prefer Srendarr for that.

The only solution is to play ffxiv a realm reborn..
Just why are you playing this poor excuse for a mmo?
You come to the forum to ask for guidance and what do you get a slap on the face.

Seriously, to all new players just GTFO from this broken game that will never be fixed.

well since I dnt have a d ge on group per se, mostly rely on Randoms in the world to run dungeon, so I'm not sure what expectations are from each person joining or how good healer is

if the dungeon is my level then I am fine, but as soon as dungeon gets scaled to v16, I start dying because not enough health points, so I start bringing food with me to raise my health up a little bit, but it's only world food, I am not sure which food is good for health and stamina buff

I have done a few dungeons now, I seem to improve a lot

my DPS was suffering because my weapon was lower then what I should have had equipped, I fixed that and next dungeon was so much easier

I e since acquired a Hundings Rage 5pc, 4 armor and a 2h sword, this is very good

I am on PC, I e never heard of those modifications, are they accepted or can they get you banned for having them?

generally the healers I have been matched with were pretty good, due to lag I get stuck or my character stops attacking, or performs a dodge roll randomly, for no reason

    it's ok, practice is important

my biggest thing is to make sure m. using skills I have available to me to the most benefit to the group, so understanding how skill buffs and enemy debuffs work to me is the biggest step, once I get my skills and passive so down, I can focus on perfecting the rotation and occasional "oh ***" moments

I have rally on my 2h bar for brutality and some healing, this is nice, but I seem people spam vigor and stay up at the boss, and I can't do that because I don't have it
