Armor styles: Is less more?

As unusual as it sounds, what I am looking forward to most in the upcoming Thieves Guild DLC is the Soul Shriven motif.

I have been long hoping for simple craftable clothing styles. By simple I mean clothing that is not overly decorated, has no tassets (aka hip-flaps) and has shoulderpieces that are barely discernable as such because they blend in with the rest of the armor (i. e. not floating mid air and not... huge).

I absolutely don't think that its bad having a system that allows people to be creative with armor styles.
But I think simple armor pieces are the hardest to get.

Right now its just too difficult to find simple shoulders that fit on the chest you like or boots without the flying knee caps.

Variety is the spice of life as they say. I want different options to choose from.

The key is for the armor to be well designed and made. It should have a consistent theme and a decent amount of detail. It should be scaled well for both genders so that tiny, hunched together pauldrons dont make all females look like elongated pears and oversized pauldrons dont look like theyre floating in the air on males. The hip guards should not levitate 10 inches away from the character's waist or dangle at his/her knees. Same with sheathed weapons (their anchor points are part of armor design). No clipping please.

Lol @ Optimus Prime/ Power Ranger thing! XD

I would like more simple armor, as it gets to higher levels it just starts to be so OTT that it looks awful in almost all styles. So, more simple armor and more options of it! Less potato sack light armor and less of everything looking like linen! More skimpy armor, so disappointed in the high level Argonian, Redguard and Bosmer styles when the lower level styles look better and more racially accurate. On females all armor styles get all covered up later in the game, ehh what. So ugly. I'm a woman and I do not want my chars to look so boring. Also if we must go the direction of outfits, is it too much to ask that they fit my chars actual body?

Only pic I have is from the Soul Shriven costume pack, I imagine the theme must be very similar (but I don't know if it will really look the same as the crown store costume pack).
    HEAJm3v.jpg

I adore the light armor style, maybe its because of all those simple hooded robes from Morrowind and Oblivion.

Medium and Heavy on this are actually not a good example. They still have those arm cops that many other styles have as well, but still they offer some simple choices for legs, gloves, boots, ...

I would like to see the option to craft any of the various looks an armour has rather than it just depending on level. I like some of the lower level versions of the armour much better than the higher levels.

Why is the shield floating a foot off her arm?

Various armor details do this as well, but my orc shield does this and it really irks me - also some shields are completely flat.

I dont mind having both options. Whenever I go with a visual style for a character I look for the most simple but culturally and era specific look I can find.

I go with the Racial Motifs when they look good and fit the character. But I also try to apply the most drab colors because I cant stand the look of fabric having a shiny reflective look to it. I want the characters to look as if they live and exist in this world. Not as if their competing with Almalexia for the shiny god look. Or that their clothing were made in a factory in China.

There are some exceptions. I dont mind slightly glossy looks to leather and I dont mind metal having a high shine to it. I also dont mind intricate stitching and craftmanship going into the fabric.

My biggest complaint is how poorly done some of the armor looks. The early Altmer Style clothing looks like a blind person stitched it together. Even though the Altmer are known for their attention to detail and high scrutiny of artisanship. Which clothing would be included.

The option to craft simple or less fussy pieces of armour would be a welcome addition. There is a place for both plain and highly ornate sets in the game.

Lol it was a joke. The thing is there are only so many armor types so you have to mix and match as well as mess with dyes to feel like your character is unique. Purposely adding armor that makes you look like a random NPC seems like a bad business decision.

I like both the ornate and the simple styles, it all depends on the character I'm playing. My humble old wizard feels so pretentious in high level robes, he wants to blend in. My little enchantress on the other hand wants more gold trim and jewels.

For me the ultimate fix would be the ability to costume-ize a set of low level armor to equip over the high level stuff, and the ability to dye costumes (like the popular servant's disguise from Stross M'kai), but I wouldn't complain if they came out with some new motifs that kept it simple, just so long as there are still plenty of fancy options for those characters that like to look Impressive (or foppish).

As other people said, there is room for both. I generally prefer armor that looks simple, but all my characters are different and they wear different kinds of armor.

I also avoid using dyes that are too bright, even if I really like the color. Usually, when I love the color but it is really bright, I use it for details in the armor only and not for the bigger dyed areas. But this also depends on the character I'm playing. Some of my characters prefer to blend in, others prefer to stand out.
Just so that everyone knows, my Altmer still can't have black hair. About a dozen of Altmer NPCs in the game have black hair. Just saying.

    Meet my characters:
    Command: Do the thing.

Zadarri, Khajiit Fist of Thalmor: The thing was done, as commanded.
Durza gra-Maghul, Orc blacksmith: The thing was done perfectly, in the most efficient way.
Tegwen, Bosmer troublemaker: You can't prove I didn't do the thing.
Sings-Many-Songs, Argonian fisher: Sure, I'll do the thing... Eventually. Maybe.
Aerindel, Altmer stormcaller: After extensive research, I've come to the conclusion that doing the thing would be a waste of resources.
Liliel, Dunmer pyromancer: Aerindel said I shouldn't do the thing. Something about "resources".
Gyda Snowcaller, Nord cryomancer: I will find a way to do it that won't waste resources and make Aerindel proud of me.
Beatrice Leoriane, Breton vampire: I persuaded someone else into doing the thing. You are welcome, dear.
Sahima, Redguard performer: Doing the thing sounds awfully unpleasant and really not my problem.
Ellaria Valerius, Imperial priestess: I'll pray to the Eight for the thing to be done, if it is Their will.
