Controlling the weather.

Hello.

From what I've understood (correct me if I'm wrong) the weather in ESO is client-side, since you can stand beside someone in the same area and it could rain on your friends screen but be dry on yours.

What I'm wondering if it would be possible to control the weather somehow through the client (addon or command-line) and if this is allowed by Zenimax?
From what I understand this does not really give any advantage gameplay-wise - I personally would love to see more rain in certain zones and it would be nice if we could control it.

I recall there was a way to do it in World of Warcraft since it also ran client-side.

I'm jealous of PC players if they can choose the weather like that, because I'd make it rain & night 24/7.

I would prefer ZOS add more contextual AND SYNCHED weather... Synched weather should be easy. Have the server have a small value the clients check every 30 seconds or so. That value=weather.

The weather in Tamriel is wonderful. I equally love to experience storms and bright sunny days. There are, however, a few issues.
    1. Synchronization of Weather: The weather for one player really should be the weather for all players in the zone. Gone should be the days of playing in a group and one member is experiencing a thunderstorm and another is experiencing a bright and sunny day. Having this simple enhancement would open the game up for some game-changing mechanics such as…
    2. Time and Weather Dependent Fog: While fog in Tamriel seemed to serve as a means to compensate for technical limitations, I have had my eyes opened by the ESO Launcher/SweetFX programs. Having no fog in the world changes the scope and feel of ESO’s Tamriel in an amazingly positive way. Alik’r desert without fog is gorgeous.

However, not having fog has allowed me to appreciate the fog as a tool for creating environmental tone. Fog really needs to be used to enhance ESO, not just blur out the distance.
      • If it is a sunny and bright day, the world should have very little/very distant fog or no fog at all
      • If it is storming and raining, the world should have heavier/dense fog.
      • Night storms should produce denser fog than day storms.
      • If a storm arose during the night, the fog should remain through dawn, creating foggy mornings.
      • Overcast shouldn’t necessarily produce fog, but it should be possible.
      • A fog slider should be added for players to increase the maximum distance the fog will retreat. This will allow players who experience performance hits to decrease the fog distance to improve performance. For these players, the closest fog distance will be the same as all other players but, as the fog recedes, their fog would recede more slowly than those that have their fog distance set to maximum.

Barring this.. then yea. Let us change it to what we want.

I would reeeeeeally like to be able to choose the weather because just as I have issues with bright sun giving me headaches in real life, I find the screen MUCH easier on my eyes when the weather is rainy in Tamriel. I honestly log off sooner when it's bright and sunny in the game.

I've experienced thunder and lightning along with rain a few times in Deshaan so far and I really liked it. Sadly it seems to happen very rarely.

I saw some great ideas put out by you there, but it didn't seem like Zenimax replied at all. From what I understand they are pretty strict on the API-rules for addons and such so it would be nice if they could at least hint if us players being able to change weather is even something we're allowed to do or not.

If Sweetfx is allowed in this game, perhaps you can try that? I think it decreases brightness in overall.

I have a feeling that if they found out you'd done it they'd perma-ban your account for hacking the game or something; as you mentioned, they're quite strict about it indeed.
I have departed into the great unknown that is outside the game and the forums, and wish you well in your Tamriel adventures!

I feel the same way about the client-side weather.
Do all players at least share the same time of day?

Especially in Cyro, visibility conditions are important.
If I think I can easily hide in a rainy night,
it could be crucial if the enemy had a sunny day.

    +1
Gives variable night/day length with seasons (no way you would have 4light/2dark without seasons).
Give us Synced weather so everyone can share and discuss the envronment.....and the atmospheric mood of the moment.
Use weather/atmospherics to control the mood of the game/area...not just a fancy light show.
Make us feel at home with seductive atmospherics

How can we have a community experience if every member of the community is experiencing something different (in the same place at the same time)?
