What is this exactly?

Can I go in a test mode to test fully leveled characters in any armor I choose with skills and stats?

There are two stages of PTS.

First, when the new content is added for Thieves' Guild DLC (hopefully some time in February), there will be a period when accounts on NA live server are cloned. If you are NA you will have the same characters, same equipment and same guilds, etc. If you normally play on EU, during this time you have access to max level templates with new gear and items for testing.

Then after a couple weeks this is switched, so EU accounts are cloned and NA accounts can use the templates.

PTS is where you go to play the new things the Devs create,..before they are released. You can be a V16,or a lower level player.V16s come with an inventory filled with a massive amount of everything you want or need. It's all in therer.Armor sets, weapons etc.
Your NA normal server characters wont always port there. Some might and some might not.I'm on NA and have had three port over to the PTS. Still, you can make new ones. 8 of them. Also, whatever you do there stays there. You cant make a character there and have it go to the normal servers.

@Volkodav does that mean I can install it, make a few level vr16 characters with my gear and armor of choice, and test it out wherever I please? This would really help me pick where I want to go in the game with what class

Yes.That's it exactly! You can test everything to find out which you like best. You can make either 8 V16 chars,or just a few, then use the others to play a regular game with whatever the devs add to test out on the public. It's great!

Note that on PTS they didn't open research traits for crafting on the character templates ... so you can't test specific crafted armor/weapon combos on your template build. But, they usually have the most recent crafted and dropped armor/weapons ... just not older sets.

Also, for whatever reason, provisioning is not maxed on the character templates. Odd, since the other crafting professions are ... Maybe it will be fixed on this next iteration of PTS.

Yes, excluding certain armor sets, rolling a template character on PTS and dueling with a friend is perhaps the best way to test various builds, or at least get an idea of what you want to do with the class before you start leveling.

As I explained to the OP,but for the exclusion bit.Excluding which sets? When I made my V16 char they all were in my inventory. It took me quite a while to figure out which ones to keep and use.

During the period when our NA accounts are cloned, you get all the same sets you have in your bank and inventory on live, and if you are a master crafter you can craft anything you can make on live. However, some new sets can be challenging to obtain or require farming dungeons, etc.

During the period when you are using template characters, it's not possible to test most crafted sets because you don't have any traits researched. They do include some reward boxes with various dropped sets inside, but these definitely do not include all the dropped sets in the game. If you have a friend from EU server with cloned account, however, they may be able to craft sets for you during this time.

Are you saying that if someone in the EU server can send armor to someone on the PTS? How's that possible.Or perhaps I am misreading what you mean.
Cloning,..is that legal? Please dont take mw wrong,I am not being snarky or rude.Truly wanting to know how to do this.

OK there are two phases to PTS, and keep in mind both NA and EU players have access simultaneously.

During first phase, NA accounts are cloned, this means PTS characters, guilds, banks, etc. are identical to what you have on live server. Also during this period, EU accounts can only use templates.

During second phase, EU accounts are cloned while NA accounts must use templates.

Ok,..it's almost confusing. XD I wonder why it is like that.Having two phases. It doesnt make a lot of sense. To me,I mean.

I believe it was explained that this was the only way they were able to add the feature to clone the accounts from live server. For example what if someone on EU server has a character name or guild name identical to a character on NA server, etc. They have to alternate between NA and EU.

Plus it gives us a chance to test all the features of guilds and all the characters on our live accounts, then we get a chance to test templates and try something new.

Basically the test sever is where they test out all the new updates, get bugs reported back to them by players (saving money on having their own testers) then ignore said bugs and inflict them on all players. After this they continue to ignore some and fix others in a month or 2s time.

also note that the PTS is for testing of the new content to help improve the game and reduce bugs... the main idea here ist for you to test out which class your build you wanna play.. but i guess it can be a nice side effect for you.. just remember to provide feedback to the devs so they can improve the game before going live

That was in my first comment to the OP.

What's the quickest way to get into craglorn on the pts these days? It used to start you off in there so you could go straight out to test your experimental build on the wasps and/or group dungeons

@Stranglehands Create a VR16 template, travel to your alliance capital (I think it may even spawn you there?), then take the cart.
