Money, does it have a real purpose before vet ranks?
Been playing this game since beta and have not really understood the economy in this game. You need 10k for a horse and thats about it before you go for vet gear.. Pots and food are common drops. Crafted armor is most of the time free as long as you have the resources for the crafter or if you have a crafting account. And yes im well aware that crafting motifs and cooking stuff are off the wall sometimes but again not necessarily needed. refinement resources are also freaking insane but then again is it really worth the money before vet ranks? Idk maybe im just missing something. If someone has some insight on this i would love to hear it!

Well first, you have to assume it is a player just starting, not someone who has a crafting account or all the resources already. Second, you have to assume you aren't getting free stuff from friends/guildmates:
1. Horses - buying the mount and upgrading costs money
2. Bag/Bank Space - this costs quite a bit as you scale up
3. Repairs/Repair Kits - if you do dungeons at all, you will want repair kits
4. Soul gems - you can farm these, but people do buy them
5. PVP siege equipment - when you start out, you won't have AP to buy these, so you will need to use gold
There are plenty more things to spend money on, so I see it having a huge purpose. Bag/Bank space alone will take a lot of gold.0
