Does Quest Leveling Slow Down After Level 40?

I've been at the 40 levels for several days now and I don't feel like I'm leveling at the same speed I did from levels 3-40. I do a mixture of things including run quests, kill mobs and do the delves, dungeons, etc. Even leveling 30 to 40 went a lot faster than this. I could anticipate - doing a mixture of things - leveling at the rate of about one level every hour or hour and a half.

Now 5+ hours on level 41 (and a couple of days on level 40) and I still haven't reached level 42. The thing is, I'm still getting experience from doing things (I can see the experience added on FTC), but my leveling has really slowed.

To be clear: I'm killing mobs at level 39, I'm running quests also, I'm gathering skyshards. I'm in Reaper's March. And yes, I'm trying experience as much as possible, so I'm not grinding this character. Yes, I'm making more money, but leveling slower.

Is this done to slow down progression in the game?

I don't like grinding, TBH. If I'm not at level 50 by the time I finish Reaper's March, I'll check it out.

    Thanks for the help.

It depends where you when questing. For AD, many of the quests at lvls 40 - 45 involved a lot of running around so it took longer to get the rewards from them.

Thing is...there's a whole other zone after Reaper's March (Coldharbour) which is about... 45-50 in levels. If you hit 50 before that you'll have outlevelled much of the content there so finishing Reaper's March at around level 45 is perfectly fine. I think the highest I've been before hitting Coldharbour was 47 and it felt too high.

Is it? The lowest level enemies around the Hollow City and such are level 45.

Arena is still the best xp and times flies by. Plus you get some half decent gear. I picked up permafrost sets which are epic for stam builds pretty much everytime.

Now 5+ hours on level 41 (and a couple of days on level 40) and I still haven't reached level 42.

If only the rate of all MMO leveling was as satisfactory  !

Of course, some of us thought EQ leveling was quick in the early days! I remember how my first guildmate to hit the level cap was an enchanter who had constantly complained about how every level was a "hell level" and about whom we joked that he loved his current level so much he'd decided to do it again - a reference (for non-EQers) to the fact that when you died you lost xp and could even lose a level. It took most players several weeks to gain a level. When you did level, of course, there was an enormous sense of achievement coupled with excitement at the trip back to your home city to discover what new skills you could train! That level of achievement and excitement has never been achieved in any MMO since. I wonder why?

What's your problem again  ?

Thank you. I didn't realize there was an entire zone beyond Reaper's March.

Fair enough, @Tandor , but I do think you misunderstand. It's not so much a "this is taking too long" issue as a timing issue. I couldn't see how I'd get to level 50 at this rate by the end of Reaper's March. Thanks to @Ghanima_Atreides, I now understand there's an entire zone after Reaper's March.

I know it's not important, but I want to hit level 50 as I leave the AD and start the end game.

Coldharbour starts at 44. Since you are killing level 39 mobs I am assuming you are at the beginning of Reaper's? I have more experience with the EP zones and the Rift is about 39-44, and then Coldharbour is 44-50.

It does feel a bit slower once you get past the mid-thirties, but if you focus on exploring the zones it goes by pretty fast, actually.

Yes, levelling gets a bit slower at 40. But in my experience, it still perfectly follows the region progression...
    Levels 1-3: Coldharbour Escape
    Levels 3-8: Starter Island(s)
    Levels 8-16: First Faction Region
    Levels 16-24: Second Faction Region
    Levels 24-32: Third Faction Region
    Levels 32-39: Fourth Faction Region
    Levels 39-45: Fifth Faction Region
    Levels 45-50: Coldharbour Assault
That's how it goes for me, mostly, doing all the questings. Maybe a level or tweo more when I do the public dungeons, dolmen and world bosses as well, but I often passed those by when just going through the story because they are a pain to solo... (well, I guess by now I have enogh c-points to make it much less of a pain, the last few at level I found quite enjoyable)

The short answer is, leveling slows down as you level, but it doesn't do it suddenly until VR. At level 3 completing a quest should push you 50% of the way towards a level. By 40 the actual XP from quest turn in is six times that, but that will only move you about 5% towards a level. Maybe 4%.

For refrence, you need about 1k XP to level from 3 to 4, and quests pay out around 500. From 40 to 41 you need 85k and quests pay out about 3k.

The real wall doesn't kick in until you hit 50. 49 to 50 requires 143k, but VR1 to VR2 (there is no real level 50, you go straight to VR1 from 49) requires 850k. As does each Vet Rank after it. This shouldn't feel as bad, because once you're at Vet Ranks you'll start earning CP and that will be a lot lower. But VR progression is slow.

Technically, Vet Ranks use the level 50 XP tables for most things, or at least, they used to. But, you can earn insane amounts of XP from some grind spots.
