Ardent Flame build questions

I just started ESO a couple days ago and have been looking into the game since sometime last year. I made a Dunmer Dragonknight that I plan to go Ardent Flame in.

Here is the current build idea:

Dragonknight Standard - ? (not sure on it)
Fiery Grip - Empowering Chains
Searing Strike - Unstable Flame
Fiery Breath - Burning Death
Lava Whip - Molten Whip
Inferno - Flames of Oblivion

Any thoughts on this build? Would this type of build need max Stamina? I'm not entirely sure how much you can put into health, magicka and stamina off hand or how it would go with this type of a build.

I am planning on doing One-handed and Shield for the weapons, would medium or heavy armor be better for this type of build?

    You don't need whip on stamina. Ransack is your friend.
    It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
    Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt,
    It lies behind stars and under hills,
    And empty holes it fills,
    It comes first and follows after,
    Ends life, kills laughter.

    Why not whip? It also increases your abilities so it would be a good idea to have it by the looks of it.

    Because it does 2k damage on stamina and takes ability slot
    It cannot be seen, cannot be felt,
    Cannot be heard, cannot be smelt,
    It lies behind stars and under hills,
    And empty holes it fills,
    It comes first and follows after,
    Ends life, kills laughter.

    If you are planning to use Stamina as your main attribute, you should try to use your weapon skills lines. They will do more damage :D
    Play for fun!

    If i may offer some advice - as a brand new player, don't worry about stuff like that yet. There's plenty of time to worry about builds later. Respecs are (relatively) cheap.

    One thing nice about ESO is that here's no need to lock yourself into a build you have to follow. Instead, mix and match abilities, experimenting with them to see what you like and what you don't(and to level them all up), mix and match armor types so that you aren't stuck with two of the three types untrained at max level(you can and should wear a mix of all three armor types while leveling)

    That way, once you are at max level, you will have lots of options open to you. The only thing that will really 'lock you' into a spec is getting a set of legendary gear supporting a particular playstyle (because gear like that is not trivial to replace). But that's all max-level stuff.

    I don't even know what it looks like or how it even works. I just said it looked smart to keep it due to the fact it can boost your abilities.

    @Gonza

    Again, I am just trying to get a build for the Ardent Flame. I don't even know what is in the One-handed tree yet. Never looked into that part.

    @Sharee

    Okay so what happens at max level then? I can't level any other skill tree then? What is the max level for all them then? On Skyrim you could level all things to 100 but I honest to god don't know how it works here.

    I will definitely get a piece of each armor soon. I got like Medium Armor on now cuz it was the only thing I could pick up at the time. -lol-

    Also on the subject can you max all three of stamina, magicka and health or do they have a cap? Sorry if this is a ton of questions. >_<

    If you want to run that kind of build you really want to go Magicka DK and use the magicka morphs of Ardent flame DoTs. Whip will do weaksauce damage and eat your magicka after a few attempts also.

    You can level skills at max level no problem, its just better to already have them. Nothing like hitting max level then realizing you'd rather PvP wearing light armor, but your LA skill is at 7 because you didn't wear it while leveling.(max armor skill is 50)

    There is no cap for magicka/health/stamina, but you have a limited budget - if you enchant all your armor with magicka, you will have less HP, etc.

    A few things.

    Firstly, don't get yourself locked into the idea of using only one skill line. Your build will be mediocre.

    Secondly, don't forget you unlock weapon swapping at lvl 15, so you will have whole other bar of skills to use. What will you put on that bar?

    Thirdly, some skills use magicka and some use stamina. Magicka skills damage scale off of maximum magicka and spell damage, stamina skills damage scale of maximum stamina and weapon damage.

    In your post you are mixing magicka skills and stamina skills (the morphs can change the skills in that way), so while it is OK to use some magicka or stamina skills at all times, you need to decide what you primarily want your character to use and then mostly stack that resource. Hybrid builds don't work so well in ESO.

    Also note that while it is totally fine for any build to use Sword and Shield, the skills in that line will all use stamina. Same for Dual Wield Bow and Two-Handed. Destruction Staff and Restoration Staff line both use magicka.

    Lastly, if you decide to use mostly magicka skills then you want to wear mostly light armor. If you are going stamina skills, mostly medium armor. Heavy armor is reserved for tanking for the most part.

    Dunno, cuz I have no idea what to really use with ardent flame. May just ignore Whip unless I give it a shot to see what it works like.

    @Sharee

    Oh. I thought there was a cap on it from skill points? Like 1k or something. I swear I seen that somewhere.

    Also if you reset stat points and all that, does stamina also get affected?

    @danno8

    I thought you could only choose one skill line? Like if you put points into skills on Ardent Flame, you couldn't access Draconic Powers skills.

    I didn't even know weapon swapping was a thing. I honestly am finding out more about this with this thread then I've even read. Should have done far more research before getting this game.

    Well if I am going One-handed and Shield I'd probably be far better off using Max Stamina builds.

    I guess I should play with all the types of weapons to see what kind of build I really want first.

    As I said before sorry for the bombardment of questions. I honestly thought I had a decent idea on the game and it shows that I don't know hardly anything about it. :/

    You can put points into and use all skill lines, and mix/match them to your heart's desire.

    The only exception is werewolf and vampire skill lines - they are mutually exclusive (you can be one or the other, but not both at once)

    Don't be sorry. The game has gone through several iterations in the last year and a half, and many of the systems and mechanics are not clear at all.

    For example did you know you can get back either magicka or stamina by performing a full heavy attack (holding down left click) based on what weapon you are holding? Not surprised if you didn't. You don't regenerate stamina if you are blocking. Dodge rolls cost more the more you do them consecutively. All sorts of things that you won't find documented anywhere in game.

    I knew that part at least. -lol- I want to go Werewolf for this char.

    Now that I know I can match I should start looking at the other lines. : 3

    @danno8

    Yeah, I been browsing UESP and Elder Scrolls Wikia and a lot of it is either missing or changed from what I'm finding now.

    I knew somewhat on the heavy attack thing but thought that was more enchantment based than anything. Blocking I have found out by playing. (Bit me in the butt a fair few times Dx) and have only dodge rolled like 2 times cuz I keep forgetting it's a thing. XD

    They need to put a basic guide up of this game and keep it updated. Dx
