magicka nb asking for help

Magicka Nightblade Breton on xbox here looking for some advice help and input

I’m vet9 right now and only use this one character as I don’t get to play as much as id like to due to work and life

Last night I got into cyrodiil to try out and see how much better ive gotten and to see if I could compete and hold my own. Now I know I’m not going in and expect to be amazing and beat and kill everyone but I was thinking id do a little better then I may have. I was playing on skull and there was a lot of yellow at the time. In PvE I do pretty well in groups when we run dungeons putting out what seems to be a good amount of dps. Ive played some PvP in the sewers and done well in there ive also had some battles with people where I didn’t think id do as well or even win but the other night playing I definitely saw some things (war changes people).

I stayed solo but ran with some groups (yes even zergs at times) and I did my part and what I could to help but at times it really seemed like I was swinging a wet noodle out there. At one point I jumped a guy to even see if I could kill him he was level 20 something but then his buddy showed up (mind u also a low level) and the 3 of us fought for some time and with no winner in sight I decided to flee in hope that more of their group didn’t show back up to kick my ass. Often when I was fighting in the groups I seemed to die pretty quickly even when the numbers favored our side. A few times I think I may have gotten too far ahead of the group (front lines) to stay alive for a guy that wears all light armor.

Now heres the build (doing the best I can to remember everything cuz im at work)

Bar 1 duel wield swords
concealed weapon, dark cloak, lotus fan, mass hysteria, sap essence: soul harvest

Bar 2 resto staff
double take, funnel health, cripple, shadow image, healing ward: soul tether

Got 20 points into health and 35+ or so into magic (thinking of redoing this to put it all in magic)
I wear 5 pieces of julianos (with a sword and staff) and the rest are magnus set I also have a willpower sword and ring vet4 tho and the rest of my gear is 7-8 but I do a good job at keeping my gear up close to my level I also enchant my gear with magicka and use the apprentice mundus stone

As for my champ points heres an idea as to how I spend them (I use others but these are ones that have more points than others):

The lady: light armor focus
Steed: resistant

Ritual: thaumaturge
Apprentice: elfborne (spell erosion will be next)

Tower: magician
lover: arcanist

Scaled to vet15 I think my max magicka was around 24-25k; health 18-19k; and stam 10-12k
spell crit was 45% and spell damage was over 1200

I can get actual stats later and I will do my best to answer any question u have for me but im really looking for some help and assistance to be better in the pvp world: how can I hit harder, how can I stay alive longer, is this even a good build, did I miss something obvious, did I f something up, do I just not know how to pvp yet?

Thank you to anyone that actually took the time to read this and give input so that this idiot can be a better and more effective player

Your stats are very low, you need better gear, your gear should be vet 9 any lower and it'll substantially affect your cyrodill stats.

My mag nb is vet 5 at the moment and in cyrodill has 3.1k spell dmg, 35k magicka, 45% crit~ and about 1800 magicka regen.

This is with just blue gear. Purple swords though.

Is your Magnus' and Julianos' gear divines and infused? Do you have spell damage on your jewelry?
  • gregv
    gregv
probably about half of it is divines hadnt been using infused, ive been going reduce cost on my jewelry because i heard that was a better way to go

The thing with jewelry is , it is one of the few places on our gear we can manipulate enchantments-- particularly the damage. If you make a v9 spell damage purple leveled rune and smack it on all 3 of your accessories you should be getting like 300+ increase spell damage at around v9-- granted your accessory is ALSO v9. I would swap out your accessories that's better for your level first, then replace the enchantment on it with damage. Even if its not willpower accessory. Save those coins for a v16 willpower.

With hand crafted gear everyone seems to be going; Infuse->pants, infuse->chest, infuse->head armor pieces. Divine on everything else. Slap magic enchants on all of them--unless if your build is unique... or your going Twice-born. You can't go wrong with the set up I just mentioned.

As for reduced cost, I'm not a fan of it. Honestly don't know much about how useful it is. I can just as easily spend Champion Points for that and put a flat damage increase on my jewelry and sleep safely at night knowing its there for me.

Put spell dmg glyphs on the jewellery 3x, on your big pieces of armour head/legs/chest put infused because the enchantments are bigger on those than the other armours.

If you feel as if your running out of magicka put a magicka regen glyph on a piece of jewellery and go 2 spell dmg 1 regen.

OP give this a read when you get a chance. Infused will increase your enchantment effect, so you get more magic. And Divines will increase the buff you get from the mundus stone you selected. Check out some of the weapon traits too. The poster did a good job of explaining how it works.

Now what the user of that page doesn't have listed is Nirnhoned trait. Which is what you're going to want on your primary DPS bar. What is nirn? It gives an amount of spell resistance and also gives spell damage penetration. Sharpened stone kind-of does the same thing, but Nirn gives you more spell penetration. And we likeys that. A lot.

HOWEVER, you should wait til your v16 to make one of these beauties. The stone is tricky to get. So you're going to want to save your pennies for this lovely weapon.

my crafting is good got 50 on wood cloth and metal and can even make vet16 gear but i certainly do not have the nirnhoned trait havent even seen it, other then paying big bucks for it how can u get that trait and material?
  • Takes-No-Prisoner

    You can either;

    1. Ask someone to make it, either by purchasing their trait/material[ask guildmates/friends]
    or
    2. Ask someone to make it, bring them the materials[ask guildmates/friends]
    or
    3. Purchase the nirn already in the armor/weapon and research it yourself, then craft it as you want <-- this is ideally what you want. As it gives you the most flexibility and lowest cost to you. The current meta is nirn one-handed swords, so if you go this route you'll want to seek one of those to research. However, as a 9-trait crafter myself, I would highly recommend continuing your journey to research every piece you can find. Again, its lowest cost to you if you can find everything-do-everything yourself.

The stone can be found from harvesting Void stone, Void bloom, and Night wood in Northern regions of Craglorn. Its a RNG chance to get when you harvest and is typically tricky to find the 'potent' stone.

Shadow image into a cloak can get u out of alot of bad situations, also proximity detonation is a good move from assault support line from pvp is a great move for magicka but it takes awhile to get. Also grim focus( the morph for exta damage and snare) with 4 basic attacks should hit pretty hard and give u extra dps, since u have cripple for speed id recommend removing double take for it. Also what faction are you, are u NA?

Hihi, magicka nibnob here. Good advice in this thread so far: spell damage needs to go up. I wouldn't worry about cost reduction, because we have some of the cheapest spells in this entire magnificent land, and if you run into resource management problems, you can always slot siphoning attacks and run wild 'n' free.

One thing to bear in mind: sap gives you a 20% spell damage bonus in the form of the Major Sorcery buff, and you want this buff up all the time. You can also get this bonus thru entropy (mages guild skill; cheap and ranged, also heals you) and spell power pots.

Grim focus, the last skill in the Assassinassinass skill line, also gives you a flat 8% bonus to all your outgoing damage. That's on top of Major Sorcery -- it won't increase the spell dmg number in your character sheet, but it will increase the dmg of all of your skills. So that's another pathway to erotic delights.

Oh! One more thing. It's not related to damage you do, but damage you take; we're talking about traits, but nobody's mentioned it: wear gear with the Impenetrable trait in Cyrodiil to cut down on the damage you take from critical hits. Not to be overlooked.

Greg - I run Nightblades and have assisted w builds. Mostly your build is great, as people have pointed out. Those abilities mesh well, amd if they're working for you then keep them.

As others have also pointed out, the weakness is spell damage. This can be boosted with armor and weapon enchants, better gear, etc. You're running blue gear...there's not a big bump to purple, but there's a HUGE bump to gold. Same with the enchants.

My advice - your build is good, but being vet 9 under powers you for PVP. First because you're physically weaker, but secondly because you're not going to invest 56 gold mats to make gold armor on a vet 9 toon. Spend some time getting the character to vet 16. Grind it fast - buy psijic ambrosias, invest in the provisioning passives that extend the psijic to 50 minutes, find a buddy, then run rampant in a tough public dungeon while on psijic (wrothgar is good, or zone 5 in your caldwells gold area). Take lots of magic potions, run as fast as you can killing everything over and over. 50 min on psijic doing this is about half a level.

Hate that grind? As an alternative, complete as many area clear quests as you can fit in your journal, but DON'T turn them in. (Area clears are the quests that turn a map marker from black to white, things like "you helped free the town of blah blah). Fill up your journal with quests at the final "talk to so and so" task. Then buy a psijic, slot all the abilities you want to level on your bar, drink the psijic and go turn them all in while boosted. A vet level is 850,000 XP. A hard quest is about 20,000 plus 10,000 area clear. Psijic makes this XP gain 45,000. Ten quests - about half a level.

Once you're higher level, make v15 purple gear. Then start replacing piece by piece w v16 gold gear with gold enchants.

Getting to v16 takes time and work, but in the long run it's probably faster to level than PVP than to play a lot of frustrating PVP while being under leveled.

To add, what davey said about abilities is also really important. If your not happy or feel something is missing with a certain ability its really important to stop and think about what is lacking on your ability bar. Do the research, look at what options you have in your skill menu, and get the skill points and spend them on the abilities you feel like you need. Even if you don't use that skill often, if its unlocked and ready to go its really nice to easily swap them out.

Never ever stop looking up different abilities. Never stop sciencing different abilites, and never stop questioning if you can make your build better for yourself. You'd be surprised what good synergy you can find with different combinations of abilities.

5x kag, 3-4 mag, 3 willpower of just purple jewellery with spell enchantments

If you don't have kag, 5x jul, 3-4 mag, 3x jewellery with 1x regen and 2x spell dmg.

No julianos use 5x seducer , 4 mag, 3x spell power jewellery.
