Characters gone

Hi,

So at some point on sunday my game wouldn't launch, saying I was running an out-of-date or invalid version of it (which wasn't the case). I looked up the problem en saw that running a repair on the patcher could possibly solve this. So I did and when I ran the patcher again afterwards, the game launched, only all my characters were gone. I had to start one from scratch.

I'm on the same server as I used to be (EU). Didn't have to install the game all over again so I'm sure I didn't switch server in the meantime.

Sent a ticket to costumer support on sunday and still no awnser (it's thursday now), which is seriously really bad.

Anybody have any idea what's going on or how to fix it?

And the solution in this case was found on Reddit by the OP:

"Just to point out, I have seen a few people recently who are logged on to the NA servers despite the fact their launcher says EU.

Go into Launcher settings, change to NA and then change back to EU and do a repair, this fixed it for the people I know having this issue.

There is a way to know for sure if you are logging on to NA or EU. Go to:

J:\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online EU\game\client

Of course your directory letter may be different, but in this folder there is an .xml called "Platforms.xml". If you open this you will see:

<login_service_url>https://live-eu-services.elderscrollsonline.com</login_service_url>; <realm_service_url>https://live-eu-services.elderscrollsonline.com</realm_service_url>;

<use_login_queue>true</use_login_queue> </platform></platforms>

Make sure your realm_service_url and login_service_url are both "https://live-eu-services.elderscrollsonline.com". If not then you are logging on to the NA server.

I've just checked the file and both services are on EU. But now I'm thinking, maybe my old installation was on NA all along (while showing EU in the launcher). So maybe after the 'repair' it actually went to the correct server and I've been playing on the NA server before that. I'll do a server switch, see what I get.

PS: Still no help from customer support.....

I have had the EXACT same experience.
Surely they should let us transfer our characters to help just simplify the whole situation.

I've read that character swaps between servers is not possible I'm afraid

So I've installed the NA client and what do you know? The characters are there. So indeed, while the launcher had always told me I was on the EU client, I was actually on the NA client all along.

At least I got my toons back. Now to figure out how to uninstall the EU client only without uninstalling the entire game. No point in having it take up hard drive space if I'll only be on NA anyway.
