Magicka Templar: Reflective Light Build--Thieves Guild

deleted220701-004865
Reflective Light DPS Build

This is a PVE DPS build for trials and dungeons. It is an alternative to the sweep build for magicka based templars. I'm in the process of fully updating the build on Tamriel Foundry. Feel free to leave any questions/comments. Thanks for your time. = D

Build Highlights:
PVE Magicka caster build using Reflective Light
Great multi-mob damage and single target damage for dungeons and trials
Most of your damage is fire, which scales well with the DK fire buff
You get to stay at range and use a staff
You can easily swap between healing and dpsing

Race:
Dunmer as a first choice. Altmer and Breton would also be good.

Attributes:
All into Magicka

Mundus:
Thief

Sustenance:
V15 Blue Magicka/Health food

Champion Points:
Warrior – Any helpful mitigation
Thief – Arcanist 100, Magician 67
Mage – Elemental Expert 73, Thaumaturge 73, Elfborn 18, Spell Erosion 3

How To Dress:
Head- V16 Molag Kena (heavy/divines)
Shoulders – V16 Molag Kena (med/divines)
Chest - V16 Julianos (light/divines)
Gloves - V16 Julianos (light/divines)
Waist - V16 Julianos (light/divines)
Legs - V16 Julianos (light/divines)
Feet - V16 Julianos (light/divines)
Neck - V16 Willpower (arcane/spell power)
Rings – V16 Willpower (arcane/spell power)
Main Weapon - V16 Maelstrom Destruction Staff (precise or sharpened)
Off Weapons - V16 Torug’s Swords (Nirnhoned)

Character Stats:
These are my stats when I am holding my destro staff:
2y6l81V.png

The Build:
Basic Set-Up:
Ai5uSim.png

Destro Bar:

Inner Light: Toggled spell, provides 5% Magicka, provides Major Prophecy buff.
Reflective Light: Fire-based skill, provides 3 ultimate every 6 seconds, provides Minor Sorcery to you and allies, hits up to 3 targets
Spell Symmetry: Slotting this grants helpful magicka passives, use to exchange life for magicka
Elemental Blockade: Fire DoT ground AoE, also used to provide the buff from your Maelstrom Staff.
Structured Entropy: Slotting this spell grants a boost to health and magicka, use to gain Major Sorcery and empower.
Empowering Sweep: Slotted strictly for the passive (increased critical strike damage by 10%)

DW Bar:
Inner Light: Must be on both bars because it is a toggled ability
Radiant Oppression: Class execute. Start executing at 20% or below
Channeled Focus: Self buff, provides Armor, spell resistance and magicka return. Keep it down for sustain.
Blazing Spear: AoE ground spell. Slotting provides Aedric Spear passive.
Structured Entropy: Slotted for passives--this is your floating skill, place whatever you'd like here
Shooting Star: Ultimate damage spell, fire based, returns some ultimate per mob hit, empower before use by pushing Entropy.

Rotation:
Single Target/AoE: Sustain Channeled Focus, Sustain Entropy buff, throw Blazing Spear on the mob(s), put down Elemental Blockade, medium weave Reflective Light 3-4 times. Restart. Reapply buffs as needed. Execute at 20%.

*This build depends on a combination of Channeled Focus and Elemental Drain for sustain on long fights. If no one in your party is providing Ele Drain, put it on your destro bar. If your sustain feels bad, swap a jewelry enchant to cost reduction instead of spell power.

**New things in TG: Elemental Wall received a GREAT buff! Having magicka damage included in Elemental Expert from the CP tree was a NICE BUFF to our Spear and Execute.**

I'm in the process of making new MoL videos and getting some new screenshots up. Any that I have so far are included in the sections below.

Tondo! Good to see you back in the mix and still running a Reflective Light build :D are you doing light attack weaving to proc Kena at all? Then swapping back to medium weaves? Though many of our DDs stick to light attacks only as the weaving is supposedly faster *shrug*

I may give this build a go as I'm quite bored of the sweeps spam now, though I don't have my Maelstrom Destro yet :(

@EgoRush i am still experimenting with Molag Kena procs--as of now, I try to proc it when I feel my magicka is fine and I'd like some more damage. I proc it using a light weave--but I'm still bad at it, lol. Thank you for the kind words. = )

It does take some getting used to, the proc. But it gets easier with practice - keep it up! As for magicka, you're using elemental skills - ele drain is your best friend! Your sustain must be better than mine :P Kena with sweeps is brutal on resources.

Have you played about with splitting points between Ele Expert and Thaum for boosting execute without affecting your weaves too much?

I have tried splitting my champion points in several different ways. The most Thaum heavy I've gone is up to 10%. I barely use my execute in dungeons, because most of it is multi-mob. Having 5-10% in Thaum gave me roughly 2000-3000 more dps during my execute phase, but was noticeable no where else.

As for my other magicka-based ability--Blazing Spear--Thaum helps a little, but is easily made up for in my buffs to fire and crit damage.

I'd recommend moving more points into Thaum if you prefer a heavier execute. It might be nicer in trials. I'm not doing any trials at the moment. = )

YES! The sustain is better! And being ranged is a lot of fun. I'm working on a VMA version of the build, atm. Wish me luck, lol.

Good luck with the vMA build! I have to admit I love sweeps there for the self heal.

How come you aren't running trials so much now? You're in the same guild as Sneaky right? I've been discussing tactics with him for trials, you should get back to it in preparation for the new trial coming on the PTS! It would be nice to know someone else is using magicka Templar in the top guilds for damage.

I am in Sneaky's guild L2P, but I am just filling in here and there at the moment. I will most def be running the new trial when it comes out. I will probably start running the old ones again when they scale to v16. Right now, it's hard to get motivated to spend the time in there, so I've been working on other things.

You guys need to get EP to the top of the leaderboards in NA! We're trying to do the same for EU, hence why I'm helping Sneaky so much :P I can understand you though, it's year old content that we've all done to death by now.

Hey guys! I updated the build to include a VMA set-up for any who were interested:

    Maelstrom Arena Set-Up:

    VMA Gear Changes:
Replace Molag Kena shoulder with a 1pc Monster set that provides health (ex: Malubeth, Maw, Nerien’ith, etc.)
Replace Torug’s Swords with 1 Maelstrom Restoration Staff
Use a Spell Reduction enchant on at least one of your Willpower Rings (I just bought a cheap one with the Healthy trait).

    VMA Skill Changes:
Repentance: This provides you with a passive regen to all of your stats. On use, it heals you and gives you stamina.
Honor the Dead: This is your burst heal. It is cheaper than Breath of Life.
Rapid Regen: This is a decent heal over time. When coupled with the Maelstrom Resto staff, it also returns magicka to you. Keep up at all times.

**New things in TG: Elemental Wall received a GREAT buff! Having magicka damage included in Elemental Expert from the CP tree was a NICE BUFF to our Spear and Execute.**
