Scamp Achievement

The Dreaded Scamp Achievement:

akpNCsy.png

I'm nearing the end of my scamp achievement. In the process of farming for the 200 scamps, I discovered a few things that might be helpful to you guys. When I first started to hunt scamps, it seemed like there was no information on the forums to get me started in the right direction. Nearly everything I read turned out to be misinformation. So, I decided to post a little about scamp spawns for anyone else working on this achievement. Hope this helps. = D

List of Important Scamp Things to Remember:

  • Scamps only spawn at their designated spawn points.
  • Scamps spawn on a timer.
  • The spawn points in the same area of the sewers share the same timer.
  • Both types of scamps can spawn from any spawn point.
  • Scamps spawn roughly 10 mins 15 seconds to 10 mins 30 seconds apart.
  • Once a scamp spawns, it will run along a set path of portals.
  • The scamp must be killed before reaching its last portal, or it will become immune to bash and disappear.
  • As far as I've experienced, only one scamp in an area will spawn per window.

I farmed scamps in the area around EP base. Here is a video and an excellently drawn map of the scamps I farmed. I don't know if there are other scamps in Harena Hypogeum--but these are the only 3 that I saw and studied at any length. If you know of any other spawn points in the sewers, feel free to leave your input for others!

Various Tips for Helpfulness
  • Clear out the scamp path before the spawn.
  • Wear high dps gear (although not necessary, I killed half of them in tank gear)
  • Slot helpful skills, like Flawless and Rapids.
  • Bring a friend--you guys can cover 2 or 3 rooms at a time!
  • Farm stones, watch a movie, read a book or play Nintendo while farming...so you don't go insane.
  • Write down the spawn times, so if you take a break for an hour or two, you can come right back.

Once you find the first scamp, you should be able to chart out their spawns for the rest of the day! Good luck!

I believe you can interrupt scamps once when they try to teleport, so its also useful to slot a skill with a knock-down effect like crystal frags or invasion.

You can only interrupt them once though. After the first time, they seem to become immune to it.

I think it's twice. Then third time they port no matter what you do.

Damn good job, @Tondodino , I'm never going to have patience for that XD

Do you know if all three people will get credit for a kill if you're three people camped at each spawn?

Yea this is poorly designed. Farming them in the right locations per 10 minutes and 15 seconds is still slow. Most of the time you wont get the spawn and someone else will as it spawns in 3 different locations in each sewer area. THEN if someone else gets it you never know you so continue to look and waste your time.. They need to change it to be way faster or lower the total scamps needed.... so badly designed.

Hmmmm, I could swear I had scamps with less than 10 minutes apart at times.

Edit: But nice work putting this info together as I've experienced it too in getting my achievements. Tho I did it in the AD starting area, lemme see if I can make a quick map for it. And for the 2nd AD area too. Funny thing is I too got my Trove Scamps way before Cunning Scamps. Not that it's a bad thing seeing as the good stuff drops from them so an extra few is nice. ^^

In my experience, the scamps have a set portal route of 4 stationary portals. When they reach the last portal on their route, that is when they become immune...regardless of how many they channeled leading up to it (if any). If this is true, then there are a few things that can explain other peoples experiences:
    • They are not engaging the scamp when he spawns--they are engaging the scamp when he is at the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th portal on his route--so it appears as if he is porting away faster.
    • The scamp is surrounded by trash mobs and their bash is hitting the mobs and not the scamp--so it seems like the scamp is immune.
    • Bugs, Lag, etc.

Here are the maps of the portal routes that I am familiar with:
    Ibcvppe.png
    HlMcWYr.png

I am unsure if they gain portal immunity at other times... It could be possible that they have an increased chance of gaining immunity the further down their route? Maybe ZoS will give us the answer one day.

I have only had 1 person watching scamps with me. I'm not sure if there HAS to be a spawn in each window, or if it's just a chance that it will happen in one of the rooms during the window. To be positive, we need to know all the scamp spawns in the area and have eyes on all of them. = /

no, you will not get credit for the scamp unless you're in range of it (in the same room, or close by in the hallway).

If you remember getting spawns less than 10mins30secs apart in the AD sewers--it may be possible that scamps in different areas have a slightly different timer? That would be interesting. I've only timed the EP scamps, I just figured they were all like that, but maybe not. If anyone can get a time on another pair, that would be awesome = D

Question- how many times did the little buggers escape from you while trying to get this achievement?

I found the hardest part was other enemy NPC's getting in the way- scamp A and scamp B on your map particularly have done that to me numerous times. I had a few times where my gap closer/stun hit another enemy (can't tab target on console), and it becomes a real pain in the butt.

I have had a lot of escapes due to the NPCs. Once you know the spawn timer, you can clear the path before hand--I found that very helpful. Another thing that helps me is using AoE and cone spells (like Jabs, Prox Det, Flawless) so I'm sure to hit the scamp along with everything else if they happen to be in the way. GL = D

I 100% count on borrowing a friends account for this and cheesing it.

@Tondodino thanks for the answer and thanks for taking your time posting this guide.

In regard to spawn times: I was camping a scamp spawn in the next part of the EP area closer to the middle, the one containing General Nasasasacharasasassssssas... I experienced that sometimes the scamp would spawn with 10 minutes between and other times 21 or 32 minutes. This is pretty consistent with it probably having spawned in one of ita other locations in the area, done its walk, and then despawned again. So atleat in this area your theory and spawn timers apply aswell.

I am wondering if there is any area in the sewers that contain less than three spawns, making it more optimal for solo farming?

Well it's been a few months since I grinded them so my memory could be wrong. But I'm also a bit suprised there are only 3 spawns in that area, the first AD area has 6 spawns.

That isnt correct for sure, that Scamp A, isnt nearly there where it shows, or then theres two spawn spots, one spawn spot is where two Scamps are.

I wasn't aware that the spawn timer is shared between all spawns in an area.
I also thought that the Scamps only spawned if players were close.
Furthermore I learned of a few new spawns in this post.
It was very helpful to me.
