• PC/Mac: NA and EU megaservers for maintenance – June 25, 12:00AM EDT (4:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating issues some players are having on the European console megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

Will there ever be the option to change alliances?

We've got some guild mates who started characters in a different alliance to the rest of us as they didn't realise which alliance we were in, unfortunately this means we can't group with them and the only time we can see them is as enemies in pvp, although weirdly it does allow you to add them to guild but not groups. Will there ever be an option to change alliances? I understand this could be abused for pvp so either it would have to be a one-time only change (or significant time restrictions on changing) and/or a cost associated with it. Thanks!

I don't think they have any plans for that for the timebeing, however, you CAN in fact group with someone from other alliance using a groupfinder;) Maybe that'll help you some. For some magic reason we can't simply do it by name but only through gfinder, so in order to pick up your friend from other alliance, choose same dungeon and start the search at the same time. It also seems to work much better if you're looking for a tank and your other alliance buddy sets his role as one(since there're less tanks overall). It doesn't mean he/she actually has to tank, just need to change your role in the group tab and voila! - cross alliance group done within seconds(if you're lucky) ;)
You of course won't be able to PvP together(and I don't think it works for Trials/DSA either) but still, better than nothing.

Kidding. I don't think that will ever be an option. It's just asking for too many problems.

the problem of this is when you are in the single player area's lvl 3-50 and the cadwell story lines. because what will happen with them when you change alliance. just to big of a hassle i think

I hope the PvE is changed after VR is removed.
PvP are campaigns so other than population issues....this would seem doable

It could happen... though it would probably be more effort then they might wish to go into.

It would have to become available only after completing cadwells to avoid troubles with quest progression...

And if it was ever done, it ought to be done properly.
Meaning, not just "buy token, poof over to new alliance", but with an grand questline taking you all over your "homelands", of an "loyalty called in question" flavor, whereas you get a choice to either stay and prove your loyalty, find out who framed you and so on, or defect to another alliance, with the rest of the questline being quite different depending on what choice is made.

Who knows? mAybe someday they will add this, it might make a logical next step after Meridia arranging for you to experience the other alliances throuzgh cadwells silver/gold... but as mentioned, doing it right would be quite a bit of effort, and I fear most of their efforts in the future will go to things that bring them extra income, DLC-wise.

But who knows? It might happen...

but then again the PvPers who don't like PvE have to complete cadwell's for it. you know the cries about that will come :D

This, I thought was the point of Cadwell but the PvE only stuff and forced part doesn't make sense.

I like your comment tho. If they removed the shards and skill quests from silver n gold and (I guess gave us this in some other ways in future base game changes) then I'd love to be able to swap alliances via Cadwell quests.

Or even after completing silver n gold ....the option to switch every X amount of days would be great as well
I still don't follow the silver n gold quests logic.

If I want to play other factions...I roll an alt and have instant access so why is there this weird gated content way of being phased out of the other factions but I can guild and talk to them regardless of faction. And now group via grouping tools as well

    Oh?
    Really?
    Promise?
    There will be cries?
    ...
Yessss... yesss... let the hate flow through you, PvPlayers... your anguished wails at having to PvE shall sustain me (when I get stomped into paste in Cyrodil, again);)

Also, there could be checks and balances to make alliance-hopping less desirable for PvP. For example, noone -really- trusts a traitor, so it could be that the ones who switch alliances might get a "distrust" period of, say, six months in which they would earn AP in their new alliance at only half rate...
And of course, any "traitor" might give double AP if killed by members of their former faction...

Oh, and there could also be titles, depending on what choice one makes. "Pact/Covenant/Dominion Loyalist" or "Defector"...

I'd be happy to defect from AD to be honest I never realised what evil SOBs we are until I did the other 2 alliance quest lines, every particularly despicable plot seems to come from AD. I'd happily switch to DC or EP just to get away from the psychos running AD.

Hopefully never. People swapping to the winning team would kill the game.

Just get them to make a character on your alliance. Get it vet 1, max class lines and make purple gear each vet level. They'll still be competitive in pvp.

If it's for pve, you can get to vr16 in two weeks easilly if you have around 3 hours a day to spare

One of them is about level 40 already, but they don't fancy restarting their character (I don't blame them). Just wish there was an option to change so we could all play together without the hassle of restarting.

It won't happen. Everyone will jump to the other faction at the end of 30 day campaign and boom top rewards. Unless it resets everytime you switch. When you switch your assault and support resets (can't be rewarded for killing your own team mates now ) and a cool down of at least 31 days to prevent point ***.

I just checked this question to be answered in the latest eso live. there will be appearance change (barber shop), name change and alliance change in the future. Only thing that will not be changeable is the class. said Gina.

While optionality is great and all. Alliance, or faction transfering always seems to create more problems than it solves, imo.

Having mass fotm faction changes every few months, and it also disrupts player community, having people jumping around to different sides all the time. Just create a new character for your desired factions maybe? lol.

But this is just what history shows from other MMOs.

People have been saying that for as long as people have been talking of alliance change options. Between people changing campaigns, and people playing alts, it would already have happened if it had any chance to happen, I reckon.

I would expect, the reality may more likely be that some people would leave, some people would come to replace them... and many would stay.
    Each to their own choices.

Me, if such an option existed, I might be tempted to shift some of my characters to EP, because... Blood For The Pact! ;) But that is -my- personal preference because of the lore, I don't give a sh... uhm... a single thought about PvP in those considerations. ;)

Pretty sure Zos said no on this one because people will just migrate and overwhelm 1 alliance. For a game that has 3 different alliance's, it's actually pretty good population wise. Of course some have more player's then other's but at least it's not completely one sided (not sure about pc though, i hear AD on there is overpopulated. On console it's even at least).
