PSN: UPDATE

Sony have promised an extension on all existing Playstation subscriptions.

The Phantom Squad hackers claimed to be responsible for yesterday's outage.

If this is the customer portal it may not affect back end maintenance. Or it might, it all depends on what is broke. Or how they allocated bandwidth in their server farms.

Nothing has been confirmed yet Sony are at the CES Press Conference and have so far refused to explain the issues PSN are having. It's definitely not a good sign, but they could still fix things by tomorrow

I feel bad for ZoS assuming they don't know anything either. They can't do what they need to if it is something that will affect their maintenance.

It's not that big of deal. Psn never went down after the holiday's last week and that was amazing. Not gaming for 1 day is not that big of deal to me. As long as they fix whatever it is and make sure it stay's fixed is all that matter's.

This also give's me some time to catch up on some show's i watch.

I'm actually not sure if PSN would need to be up for ZOS to do their maintenance. It seems counter-intuitive to me that ZOS wouldn't be able to just go ahead and do the maintenance on their own servers irrespective of what's going on with the network that connects those servers to the machines of the players. The only reason i could see for this to affect the maintenance is if Sony has some rules that maintenance updates need to be cleared through their network for some reason.

It actually did go down on Christmas Day due to a mass of players trying to log on, but they brought it back quickly

Yeah, I'm not too sure either. My job is reporting news and reviews, I'm never quite clear on the small print of maintenance xD

That's another reason PSN and XBL should have played nice together and let ESO manage a multi platform server, instead of bickering like children.

Edit: because altho my service is down I can access Hulu and Netflix still.

Well this is depressing, must refrain from jumping out a window... The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is practically my life. I know this must have been out of the control of ZOS, but I reeeally especially hope for an extra good shipment of stuff into the Crown Store later this month to turn things more positive...

Yeah, Playstation users haven't been very favoured lately We had to miss out on the free weekend and discounted crowns (because of Sony) and now we can't even access the game and make use of our subscriptions...because of Sony. I'm usually their biggest supporter but I expected a bit more communication from them by now.

If it is anything like the big one in 2011, they won't tell you for a while. If it is an account hack, you won't know for at least a week. Given their track record it might be a good idea to keep an eye on your bank account for the next several days.

WHAT!? I didn't sign up for this! I swear, if I get robbed amidst this, I really am just going to want to die. I'll be living in a nightmare for days potentially. What a year this is shaping up to be... -_-

I laughed last year when they tried to say that their contract specified the service could be terminated anytime and they were not obligated to keep it on.

Then, icing on the cake was all the dummies that defended them!

I mean, it's just a game I get that, but we can't let a company pull that crapola.

I heard ISIS uses PS4 and Call of Doody to train its fighters. So why would they take down PSN?

Hacker is going to be some upset when he finds out that every card on my account is a prepaid card that is immediately emptied on the item I intend to purchase.

I learned my lesson back in 11. Heck, I hope they steal my identity while their at it. Maybe they can do a better job on my credit score than me!

I think ZOS has only ever done that before if it was their fault that a player could not access the server not someone else's

It costs roughly .50 cents a day for ESO+....

I'm by no means rich and sometimes live paycheck to paycheck with a wife and 2 kids....but my god...even if it's out for a week that is about $3.50. If your that broke to ask for something like that....you may want to stop playing video games...

Update: I just had a pop-up telling me Playstation is Under Maintenance. There's still hope it could be up and running sooner than the 7th

ddos is a children's way of saying "I'm a hacker" I will bet my life on the fact that whoever did this is a bit smarter than the average bear.... And actually hard coded the hack (if it even was hacked, this is only speculation) into the network then ran some kind of debugging on it.

a simple ddos by even a hundred million user connections would have been back up by now. Sony pays millions yearly on ddos protection yet their security team can't stop anything else.
