Quick story time!

I started this game a while back played a magicka dk to vet 5, cinsole ver. came out around the same time my 2 irl friends flaked out and quit the game.

I have another friend who is a console junkie that has no idea what pc gaming is. He doesn't understand the concept of game's over 30 fps, he doesn't understand why anyone would want to use a keyboard and mouse over a controller, he doesn't understand that games on console have vastly inferior visuals, and he really doesn't even understand the actual concept of an mmo.

But in his innocence, he had never played an mmo and loved the older TES games from Morrowind onward. He begged me to play eso with him when he noticed it on the psn store.

Reluctant as I was I thought screw it why not, my other friends abandoned the game so at the very least I can enjoy the game with someone who has yet to be swooned by the alure of mmo gaming. It's almost pitiful and charming at the same time when I saw the look on his face after telling him that you can be in groups of up to 15 players, he was utterly amazed lol.

Fast forward to now, I'm starting to feel the pain. My friend is still utterly oblivious and I'm finding myself constantly complainng about the console versions shortcomings. I'm getting pulled in two directions and my friend is def. not helping.

On one hand it's nice to play with someone who at this point in online gaming is not a complete cynic. His shear ability to be amazed by things that an average mmo player takes for granted or views as run of the mill, is almost endearing to be apart of, part of me is envious of his experience lol. It doesn't help that I greatly enjoy my ps4 character over my pc character currently.

On the other hand..... well I'm sorry but I feel that the pc version is utterly, completely and objectively the better experience. I have always been pc > console and a proud owner of a fairly beefy gaming rig. This game is gorgeous. Playing it at its absolute prime is very satisfying. From communication to pvp performance to community, the experience is just so much better.

Whenever I'm playing with my friend he is always so ecstatic, just the other day we decided to do some cyrodil and he has never been apart of a zerg or seige before and he was absolutely livid, like a kid in a candy store, obviously his contribution was minimal but he loved the spectacle of it. Meanwhile the entire time I'm having a miserable experience, horrible network lag (not exclusive to consoles I know), 15 to 20 fps easy on top of trying to properly target and an anolog stick amongst all of that.

In other cases it's a dungeon run where there is zero communication and players failing certain mechanics, all the while my friend is just shouting about "beating up the boss!" Or "this is so crazy man!"

I'm always keeping my thoughts inside as I don't want to spoil his experience but I just can't stand it anymore, I don't know if I should leave him in which case he will be very annoyed and upset or suck it up and play the ps4 version. :(

My ps4 character is vet 10 and my pc character is vet 6.

It's a game...if you're not enjoying where and how you're spending your free time....stop and find happiness.

This is something you need to decide for yourself but you already have the answer. Just make the decision

Eh, play whichever one you're having more fun with. I'm mostly a PC gamer myself, but the whole console vs PC thing just mystifies me. If you're having more fun on the console version go with it. Gaming is gaming, leave the whole console/PC war thing in the dumpster where it belongs.

What is funny is good some people are content to be second hand gamers. The lack of communication, information, and the complete disregard for those not on the PC. People act as though it was a gaming experience is what the devs are arguing for the differences, some issues are argued the same way for issues on the PC, but it is simply laziness and disregard on the behalf of the developer. Why create an even playing field I guess when you can just be lazy developer I guess that is easier. But people are suckers there days and are fine with such practices in so happy they had to go buy2play they simply didn't deserve a subscription model.

If you want to keep him as a friend, and if he's an IRL buddy, have him try it out on your computer.
Don't give him your password, and it's not like you two will be sharing it indefinitely.
If he isn't local to your location, you can suggest trying the pc version.
There's not just better graphics, there's also add-ons.
And if he has trouble with the mouse/keyboard, there's programs for the pc that can keybind the controller buttons (there should be pc compatible PS4 controllers out there somewhere).
If he doesn't have the $50 or whatever to buy the game again, just wait for a steam sale.

I also do agree with the rest about playing however makes you happy.
If he throws a fit and quits, it's on him.
Don't sacrifice your happiness for the sake of someone else, in a game.

Not such a big deal really play free on one sub on the other.
Although I have rooted on PS4 I still go back and play on PC occasionally.
Think of it as having 16 character slots. lol

If you already own it on both platforms, why choose? When your console gamer friend is online and able to play, play with him on console. When he's not, play on PC.

I've never played ESO on console, so I can't say from personal experience, but from what I understand the PC version is simply better. That's fine, and you can enjoy that better experience when you're not playing with your friend. When you are playing with your friend just keep in mind that you're missing out on better gameplay because you want to have fun with your friend. Don't compare the gameplay with the gameplay of the PC version.

    Tough choice.

Are your time constraints such that you can't play PC when your friend isn't around?

Guess you could make new friends on PC but it would be nice if you saw your buddy set up in a good guild or something before you go since you got him hooked.

You can't play for/because of him, you have to do what make your leisure activity worthwhile to you, bottom line.

    Good luck.

Pc version is better i wish zos put more effort into making the game more equal to all plattforms. I used to play on PC but moved to consoles becouse i rarely spend time on the pc and all my friends play games on xbox.

Thanks for the quick replies all.

Note that I do not mean to insult my friend, I've known him for 16 years. We are both nearing 30 so time constraints are indeed a thing, I still juggle both games atm, but I feel the burn when I have a very long research timer on pc and then have the exact same trait that needs research on console for example lol. When I play both it feels like I'm kind of wasting time and effort, that probably a silly way of thinking I know.

His company in game almost makes up for the console versions flaws but honestly if ZOS announced tomorrow that they would allow console characters to xfer to pc I believe I would do that and stonefly plea for my friend to maybe invest in a gaming pc.

An important and almost sad point I failed to mention lol....

I bought a ps4 for the very reason to play with him lol.... :(

My girlfriend asks me to go to places I would never go on my own volition. The only reason I go is she wants me to and I have a good time because she is there.

I think you should look at gaming with your friend the same way. Ignore the shortcomings of the media and enjoy instead the experience that you have playing the game with them. When you want to be serious about ESO, then play on the PC, when you want to have fun with your friend, play on the console. Just have different expectations for each situation.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Yep I agree with this. Doing anything with friends is always nicer than going it alone.

My ps4 character is vet 10 and my pc character is vet 6.

What is it about your PS4 character that you enjoy more than your PC character? Perhaps you could recreate the same character on your PC if it is a different class or race. For me, if I don't enjoy my character- whether it be visually, character concept, etc- I will eventually reach a point where I start wanting to create a new character.

get him to get a fairly cheap gaming computer and a Controller, the PC now has controller support.

Even a cheap gaming computer will have better graphics, what's more you may be able to interest him in other games.

imagine his wows, when he see's the difference, then show him addons, can you imagine the mess from his joy of that!

It sounds like you have already made your decision and you now resent having to play on console. Time to admit to your friend that you don't want to play on console and see if he is willing to play on PC.

Personally I played on PC and I'm a lot happier playing on PS4, feels a lot more comfortable for me. It would be nice to have a few of the features from PC on console (text chat and the option to have scroll combat figures) but who knows maybe we will get them eventually.

Graphics are better on PS4 for me than they were on PC high settings. If your friend is getting a PC and you are trying to impress him you will want him to have a rig that can handle ultra. Controller support should help but help them with getting TS set up as well if they haven't used it before.

I really enjoy magicka nb caster/healer more than dk fire mage (my pc char).

Yeah this proposal was really on the table at one point, his comments strongly suggested he would never want to restart on pc, this is his first mmo and I can imagine getting to v16 for him is practically a crowning achievement that takes a lifetime  I will try this in the near future idk..

This right here honestly carries the most weight for me, last night we were on for 3 hours and had a pretty good time. At the best times I forgot I'm on ps4, but when it gets dicey, the console versions creeps back into my head.
