Couldn't figure out how to edit my OP in the other thread.
I was having CtDs, and for seemingly no reason. It seemed like when the game asked a lot of my graphics card, but then it would sometimes crash inside a bar with no one there but NPCs. I run about a couple dozen addons, but have definitely run more before.
I have a GTX970, an upgrade to my pc from when I played earlier this year (without CtDs, ever) so I know it had something to do with that. I updated the driver, installed all optional windows updates, and tried a few fixed suggested by devs in other threads. No dice.
Then I saw on the support forum, buried 4 pages into "crashing fixes" was this:
NAVIGATE TO Users\(your user)\Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live AND DELETE THE FILES, "UserSettings.txt" and "ShaderCache.cooked" I HAVEN'T HAD A SINGLE CRASH SINCE.
Anyway, just wanted to pass along the information. I work in IT, and I know how incredibly frustrating it is to find a post on tech forums about a problem I have, and the user never returned to post a solution if he found it.
Thanks!
