How do you update your add-ons manually without losing settings?

I know about minion but I want to know how one updates their add-ons without losing the in-game settings? Someone told me to just delete the exe files or something and add the new ones?

kamimark✭✭✭✭Settings are in SavedVariables, not AddOns. You can replace anything in AddOns. I just download the updated zips, extract them, and move them into AddOns, I don't bother with Minion.
