How to distrubute Champion Points for Magicka based Dps Sorcerer for pvp?

ferbatzer6
Hi guys, I am running destro/resto and I would like to hit like a truck. I curious how should i distrubute champion points? I have a few questions.in apprantice tree there are 3 options elfborn, elemental expert and spell erosion.of course I have to spend at least 30 points in here in order to get spell precision passive for critical and of course there is thaumaturage in ritual. Some guys says put 30 in elemental expert and the rest is thaumatarge because of curse and frags. Should i focused on base damage or critical? Please show me the way. Or can you send me a good builds for sorcerer pvp dps. Thank you.

Partially the answer depends on which exact skills you plan to use the most in PvP for doing damage. Your choice for ultimate is one big part of this - which combination will you use of Overload, Meteor, Storm Atronach and Dawnbreaker? Will you combine these with Magicka Detonation to achieve more burst damage? The thing about sorcerer damage is that a lot of it relies on using skills which will go off at the same time, thus delivering great burst damage that people cannot mitigate/heal through. Magicka Detonation + Velocious Curse + Endess Fury (or the other morph, doesn't really matter that much) are part of this. Using Meteor adds to the timed damage aspect.

I suggest you go through your damage logs after each fight for some time, and find out how much damage each specific skill did during the fight, and hone your distribution of CPs between elemental damage and thaumaturge based on that, possibly changing some of the skills you choose for your damage output - it might be worth using one more elemental damage basic skill or ultimate instead of a magic dmg one, or the other way round.

The thing about whether to focus on critical damage depends on who your enemies are going to be, and who you need the most damage against. Do you want to do the most damage against noobs or dedicated PvPers? In my opinion, crit is better against noobs than against dedicated PvPers for the following reasons: dedicated PvPers are more likely to be defending against you by either using damage shields (which are not crit) and by using the Impenetrable trait on their gear and points in the CP passives against critical damage. On the other hand, will you be using Power Surge? If so, investing in crits will benefit you a little more. Also, from what I have heard, though I have not tested this myself, even though shields cannot be crit, Power Surge still supposedly does heal you even when you attack someone using a damage shield and the attack would crit, even if it doesn't do the crit damage due to the shield.

In short, I would invest both in elemental damage CP and thaumaturge, and a little bit in crit damage (the 'cheap' CP points that you get at first). I do use Power Surge in PvP because it gives a long buff and it does at times heal me. The exact honing of your CP will depend on who you want to be the most effective against and what your individual preferences and fighting style are.

Edit: Also, while hitting like a truck is certainly an option, one of the best sorcerers I know does not have a lot of spell damage. Yet he is very effective because he reads the situation well, kites and defends, and times his attacks well. If you stack everything into damage, you will not have great sustain, and it will come, especially, at the cost of your stamina management, which will mean that your character will run out of stamina easily and get killed by enemies because of that. Being able to dodge roll is also important in order to keep attacking just a tiny bit longer, or to give yourself time to recover/prevent a burst from the enemies, or to give you a chance to start kiting better if the situation turns bad. On the other hand, I do believe that 1 vs 1 fights between good sorcerers require very high spell damage in order to *perhaps* be able to do enough burst damage. But that's a specialized case, I take it you were just asking more in general about open world PvP against all kinds of enemies.

So I know I'm going to be told by someone else I'm wrong etc etc etc. But this is how I've been playing my Mag Dps Sorc in PvP and I'm hard to take down and can burst you down really fast.

For my champion points I focus on Elfborn and Thaumaturge. I have 365~ points so I do around 80 Elfborn, 30 Thaumaturge, and 12 elemental expert.

On top of this I use Shadow instead of Thief and use a Precise staff instead of Nirnhorned.

With the Sorc passive involving Dark Magic you sit at about 58% Critical strike chance with an extra 40% critical strike damage. On top of this I have 40 so far into Tumbling? Or whatever it's called, it has been very very useful so I thought I'd mention it.

But if you have high max Magicka and Spell power it's very difficult to deal with the critical bursts and usually all it takes is a weaved curse, weaved endless fury, and a weaved frag. It's all done in less than 3 seconds and you're hitting for 25k to 30k if the curse and frag crit, and ending with a CC. Considering you only need to get them to 20% health for the fury to go off (thought they changed it to 30% but it doesn't seem like it) usually that's enough damage to do the trick. And you get over 4000 Magicka back if you kill them.
