DragonKnight - Shadowfen VR3 help

leemather
leemather
So, Im VR3 and in Shadowfen before the Imperial City patch and up til then Im killing everything fine. Ranged Destro Staff build.

Then comes the patch, all my skills are reset, Ive no idea what went where but Ive tried to rebuild what I had and now I cant kill anything, literally.

Can anyone help me with a build to get through Shadowfen VR3, I feel otherwise it is going to be ciao to ESO if this frustration carries on

ta in advance for any help (and also for all the L2P help too ;))

Ok... .well if you were fine before the skill reset but aren't now then it should be very easy.... Some of these are fairly basic but are easy to miss and would make you feel weaker....check the following:
    • Did you put skill points back into the class skill passives?
    • Did you put the skill points back into the light armor passives? (Assuming you're wearing light armor as a magicka build)
    • Did you put skill points back into racial passives?
    • Do you have a food buff up? Blue V1 health/magicka food is the ideal for a V3 magicka build.
    • Your mundus stone will have been reset as well probably... go and grab the Thief stone... this is the strongest DPS stone right now.
    • Check your gear isn't all broken and in need of repair.

These are the only things that will have changed as part of a patch skill reset.

To allow us to give any further advice we'd need to know the following:
    • What is your mundus stone?
    • What food are you using?
    • What gear / weapons are you using? (Include set type, level... green/blue/purple etc.... what glyphs are on the items? light/medium/heavy?)
    • What skills are you using on bar1 and bar2?

Ok, gear is all over the place since Im trying to level Heavy and Medium (Heavy is at 46 and Medium at 44). I am a 50 clothier and 50 smith, so I can make whatever is needed set wise and have most traits unlocked.

Ardent Flame is 50 and all skills chosen
the other 2 have no skills in them, but they dont seem to have any synergy.
Dark Elf Skills are fully used
Light armour are 3/3 evocation 2/2 recour and 2/2 prodigy
Dont use food (where do I get it from, im no cook)

    Using the Mage Mundus

    Loudout 1

    Frost Reach IV
    Molten Whip IV
    Burning Talons I
    Dragon Fire III
    Green Dragon Blood IV
Dragon Knight Standard IV - Ultimate

Other load out is a dual wield as I was trying to level that too

Can you give a little more detail about the problem. Is it you are dying to quickly, you are running out of resources, are you being overwhelmed by numbers?

If you are a magicka Dunmer DK I would recommend flame staff to take advantage of your passive. If you are having trouble with mobs then swap whip for burning embers for heal return and swap frost reach for obsidian shield. When you are getting low health pop the shield then Green Dragon's Blood for the extra health boost.

Consider swapping firey breath for Impulse for your AoE as well but whatever works for you.

Is this a reasonable crafted gear set up, all light and fire staff?

2 peice Torugs Pact (spell damage)
3 Peice Twighlight (max health and spell crit)
3 peice willows path (max magica and spell crit)

5 piece bonuses are usually the best. Spell crit isn't as good as spell damage for DPS if that is what you are looking for.

If you can make it Julianos, one of the new sets in Wrothgar, is good for magicka builds. You can probably still get away with using VR1 Warlock (3 jewellery and two cloth) or magicka furnace (3 jewellery and two light) VR1-5 both drop sets.

If you want a crafted set with less traits then Seducer or Magnus are both still good for magicka builds. Just remember more magicka means more shields and heals so if you want to level heavy and medium do one of each with the training trait and do the rest as light armour to boost magicka regeneration.

EDIT: I think you need to work on your other DK skill lines. to level them both up as a priority, else you will struggle. they are both really useful. and once you have them
not really fully appropriate but if its good enough for VMA its good enough for solo play:
    http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/maelstrom-arena-build-dk-magicka/

Personally i solo with the following:
    Here
but you probably wont have the ultimate or passives from mage guild so feel free to swap stuff out. elemental drain gives you nice sustain on all your dragon knight's flame ablities

The other build is obv better survival and DPS, but i find it boring for doing regular content. id rather lose crit and have more skills i can play with, rarely need good heals for solo content.

close range is fun and and lots of survival and healing with coagulating blood, draw essence and talons+flamelash+flamelash combo. Range i can stay range all day with spell reflect and kite the mobs using eruption to slow them. and crushing shock with normal destruction staff attacks

some times i might swap out certain skills. some boss fights talons wont do anything to the boss so i will bur burning embers there for another dot.

    Ok....

Draconic power passives are quite good from a defensive point of view... earthern heart are good for sustaining resources... so both are worth investing in.

Food: You should basically have a food buff up all the time. This will increase your resource pools... EG blue food can increase your health and magicka... more magicka = more damage. You can either craft food yourself (Google a guide for this), buy it in guild stores... which is probably the easiest & cheapest way.... its dirt cheap now. This will be the single biggest upgrade you can make if you're not using it now.

Armor: I'm going to guess that you're not running any set items for your armor? So I'd suggest crafting 5 pieces of Julianos (In Wrothgar) if you can... it takes 6 traits. Or ask somebody nicely to make you a set (If you're on PC/EU server drop me a mail in-game & I'll help you if you cant do it ... @flaminir ) Use Divines as the trait for the gear.

Weapons Use fire..... flame staff is best for DK as all your passives buff fire damage.

Jewellery... magicka furnace is good at that level... or Warlock at V1. Again all can be found in guild stores pretty cheap now.

Enchants & mundus stone: Make sure your gear has magicka enchants on... and then swap your mundus stone to the thief for more crit (This will increase your dps a lot!)

Skills: Force pulse does more damage than flame/frost reach. Impulse/pulsar does decent fire aoe damage on a DK. You could add in stuff like hardened armor if your struggling defensively... also igneous shield.

Make sure you always have something like Inner Light (Mages guild skill) on both bars... between the skill itself and the fab mages guild passives that will give you an extra 7% magicka, 2% regen, 10% crit. It's insanely strong for magicka DPS builds.

Also have structured entropy on your backbar... keep this up in a fight... it gives you a 20% buff to your spell power!

There's loaaaaads of other stuff... but these are a few pointers to get you going :)
