Controller support for Xbox 1 on PC

since none of the professional from Microsoft or ESO seem to be able to offer any help what so ever I figured I can ask someone with intelligence (the players). I just got a Xbox1 controller for PC and can't seem to get anything to work with the game. As far as I can tell ESO now has controller capabilities on PC. Is it simply impossible to use the controller for the game, do I need to download specific software, should I get a controller that actually works on the game, is my controller DOA?

I plugged it in, it said it couldn't download the drivers, I went to device manager and it says drivers are up to date, but I see a driver for Xbox controller in my updates and it keeps failing. I do not have any yellow light for connection on the wire but the big Xbox light is on. If I hold Xbox button down it sometimes (not always) launches steam and appears to work just fine. But if I launch steam game I get nothing. In ESO I also get nothing. In windows I get nothing. The cursor doesn't move and no inputs occur at all. Am I doing something wrong.

Have you enable the controller BETA option in the settings?

i have a xbox360 controller and it works fine
