Would you like to be able to fish in any water?

One of the things that annoys me about fishing is that I can only fish in certain locations. I like the idea of "sweet-spots" for fishing that players can discover and return to, but they shouldn't be blatantly tagged with rustling water.

ZOS should allow for open-water fishing. Wherever there is a body of water, players should be able to cast their line. Players would eventually discover where the sweet spots for fishing are and ZOS could even have the sweet spots move depending on time of day.

I could even see a system where the little "splashy water" spot is "revealed" once you find the spot but you are still able to fish outside of those spots if you want to.

This desire was brought on by the regular discovery of fishing gear near water with no fishing spot...

There was only one MMO I played with fishing where you could fish anywhere and it wasn't very good. It got boring quick with no real challenge to find the best spots.

In the real world, people that fish know the best spots to go where there will be a higher change or where certain fish like to go. They also know what bait to use for certain places and fish. Having specific locations in the game where fish are located, where certain types are, and kinds of bait for locations is honestly more realistic. This is more of a challenge, and having a fish anywhere ability would be WoWifying (dumbing down). The system in ESO is the most realistic I have seen in an MMO.

When I was a kid, my father taught me about locations, bait types, etc. The only thing missing from the game would be best time of day, but that would probably be too frustrating in a video game. In the game, I sort of feel like its a similar challenge from when I was a kid.

But your point is EXACTLY my point @CapnPhoton . Right now everyone knows the best spots to go to. It doesn't matter how good they are or if their father showed them the best locations. What I'm suggesting is that we be allowed to fish anywhere but there be sweet spots where the best fish are. If you don't know the best spots, you won't get the best fish. The only difference is the best spots wouldn't have huge bulls-eyes on them that say "FISH HERE NOW!!!" and players could fish anywhere else to get junk fish for cooking.

And I also suggested time of day addition... did you even read the OP?

Getting the Master Angler title is already such a grind. I can't imagine how horrible it would be if you not only had to find the rare fish, but also had to find the good fishing spots all over Tamriel. No thank you.

Yes I read it and offered my thoughts. My comment about someone teaching you the best spots seemed relevant since you have to find them or look it up. To me it seems more realistic. In real, you could be out on a lake all day and catch nothing. Someone comes along and says, 'catch anything?'. You didn't. Then they suggest a certain place, then you take the suggestion, go and catch your limit. If you want to have it so that fish are everywhere, in the places that are not special it should be a lot harder to catch anything.

I'm perfectly happy with the present situation, it feels more rewarding to come upon a fishing spot and be distracted for a short while from the adventuring, it makes it sort of special compared with being able to just cast a line anywhere.

Locations where there is fishing gear but no fishing spot are often deserted, just a fishing pole on the ground or resting on a frame, and that gives the impression that the spot has been exhausted and the angler has gone away. I'm fine with that, but I can equally accept the argument that where there is fishing gear there ought to be a regular (but not constant) fishing spot.

This is the kind of experience I'm looking for in ESO @nPhoton but in the end it would just end up a blurb on a Wikipedia... I hadn't really looked at it like that.

I said no, but as long as the hot spots would remain visible, I'd be fine with open world fishing, as long as open world didn't mean never finding anything green or blue.

I don't want hotspots to go away... and I'd be ok with the hotspots being visible... I just hate that if I walk 2 feet away from the hotspots I can't fish. That makes no dang sense.

Just remember to watch out for Slaughterfish. Easily my #1 cause of death in this game, next to fall damage... from trying to land in the water but missing.

If we were able to fish in any water I would LOVE a mechanic where fishing in Slaughterfish water would grant you different types of slaughterfish and perhaps even have a chance to pull you in. heheh.
