In the real world, people that fish know the best spots to go where there will be a higher change or where certain fish like to go. They also know what bait to use for certain places and fish. Having specific locations in the game where fish are located, where certain types are, and kinds of bait for locations is honestly more realistic. This is more of a challenge, and having a fish anywhere ability would be WoWifying (dumbing down). The system in ESO is the most realistic I have seen in an MMO.
When I was a kid, my father taught me about locations, bait types, etc. The only thing missing from the game would be best time of day, but that would probably be too frustrating in a video game. In the game, I sort of feel like its a similar challenge from when I was a kid.

But your point is EXACTLY my point @CapnPhoton . Right now everyone knows the best spots to go to. It doesn't matter how good they are or if their father showed them the best locations. What I'm suggesting is that we be allowed to fish anywhere but there be sweet spots where the best fish are. If you don't know the best spots, you won't get the best fish. The only difference is the best spots wouldn't have huge bulls-eyes on them that say "FISH HERE NOW!!!" and players could fish anywhere else to get junk fish for cooking.
And I also suggested time of day addition... did you even read the OP?

Yes I read it and offered my thoughts. My comment about someone teaching you the best spots seemed relevant since you have to find them or look it up. To me it seems more realistic. In real, you could be out on a lake all day and catch nothing. Someone comes along and says, 'catch anything?'. You didn't. Then they suggest a certain place, then you take the suggestion, go and catch your limit. If you want to have it so that fish are everywhere, in the places that are not special it should be a lot harder to catch anything.
Yes, but this should be a Khajiit passive
I said no, but as long as the hot spots would remain visible, I'd be fine with open world fishing, as long as open world didn't mean never finding anything green or blue.
Just remember to watch out for Slaughterfish. Easily my #1 cause of death in this game, next to fall damage... from trying to land in the water but missing.
