[PC/EU] unusual lag spikes

Hello,

Is it just me or it lags for everyone today? I'm having lag spikes - latency jumps in all zones. Unplayable. Yesterday it was fine. Called my internet provider but they couldn't help, as it seems it just with eso - internet works fine for other things.

I am having the same problem - it spikes up to 999+ for awhile then falls back down to 400 or so. Which part of Europe are you in?

Man taip pat :) Are you using teo as your internet provider? I think it's an issue with them.

yes, if I connect with my mobile internet, latency is good. I've called them yesterday, couldnt resolve. I think I'll wait till monday, and register the issue. It might be eso as well, as it is free weekend.

I did a traceroute to the EU game server and I am getting packet drops from a German IP - I'm guess that might be the problem. Also, I did notice the lag wasn't there early in the morning and then began to lag as more people logged into the game. As you said also might be an issue with a lot more people playing because of the free weekend.

Ah, more people with this issue! Sveiki. Yep, same here - LT, teo. Saturday night was horrible, got kicked to login screen every few minutes. Was doing trials with the guild and guildmates from other EU regions didn't seem to have any troubles. Talked to my friend (also LT, teo), and he said the game is currently unplayable for him too. He thinks that maybe it's because the ESO content delivery system during the free weekend is considering our region to be low priority. Dunno, will wait until next week to see if things will resolve themselves out.

yes, but it's only TEO, for example skynet, bite is not affected

Whatever the reason the game is pretty much unplayable for me right now. I just tried to play and it took me about 5 minutes to reach a quest giver that was probably 20 meters away due to rubberbanding.

You can either run a ping command or tracert from command window. I found two IP addresses in resource monitor related to ESO.exe 159.100.232.135 and 159.100.232.114. I think 159.100.232.135 is the actual game server. When I do a ping on a loop it looks like this:

Pinging 159.100.232.135 with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 159.100.232.135: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=54

I'm getting a lot of time outs. I'm also still having a lot of issues with latency. Pinging with the -t switch will make it continual so you can get a better idea about your connection.

Hey, writing for my friend here. He hasn't set up his forum account in time, and now it might take forever, so... anyways, here's his input:

"Client connects to 159.100.232..., while pinging any of those addresses there's ~20% packet loss if you do it from internet connection provided by TEO. There's no packet loss with other ISPs. If you traceroute the address ('traceroute' command from Linux, 'tracert' from windows) and find last hop before destination you can ping it without any loss from TEO as well. So it is either destination dropping inbound from certain AS or ISP for some reason dropping outbound to that specific subnet. Problem disappears late at night or other low activity periods."

I noticed that too - pinging last ip before destination from tracert shows no dropping.

I've registered the issue to TEO support, will see how it goes tomorrow. I suggest you do the same, so they raise the priority :)

Good news! I just played a bit, the gameplay still seemed a bit bumpy, but gonna check later after work too.

I'm in the game now and my latency is still spiking up to 500+ - seems it's not fixed.

    Yep, still nearly unplayable.
Update: After playing for awhile the lag disappeared. Not going over 100 ms ping.

Same here, the game is playable again. Thanks guys for helping to deal with this issue! I guess we'll meet again when something similar happens, haha. Cheers!
