Character deletion

Apart from it being am infuriating nuisance to your customers, why is there an extensive waiting period to delete a character?

Say your account is compromised, you would have enough time to contact ZOS before all characters are poof - although they can restore it.

Just to clarify, you get a new delete token 24 hours from the point of the last deleted character, so if you delete another, the time resets.

Although, I'm sure the reason is botting as the others have said. I wasn't playing back when bots were everywhere so it wasn't on my mind.

Yes, there are some quests goldfarmers used to make gold: create a character, complete non-combat quest, get the gold, delete char and create new one. With time limit it's not worth of trouble.

SO wouldn't a simple confirmation email work better? Or is that not irritating enough for the customer?

I much prefer this method than say having to wait 7 days to delete a character over level 10 etc like some other mmos do out there. I can't see more than a fraction of a % of the playerbase ever needing to delete more than 3 characters in one day.

This delete mechanic almost single-handedly stopped botting overnight.

A long while ago, you would see this but with level threes:

    qq7mjrgpbyl1.jpg

    Also, this:

    6U94teP.jpg

Botters would make a character, do one quick quest, collect the gold, mail it to a main character then delete the character, rinse and repeat. They'd do this all day with tons of accounts. As soon as the 1-per-day delete was brought in this literally stopped overnight.

A small inconvenience for 0.01% of players versus removing bots like that entirely? Worth it.

I remember these clones. Made me remember all the white wookie goldsellers en botters in SWG.

How'd you like some of these?

Dont know if its still the case but the PTS didnt have the character delete limit last time I checked. So if you want to make a new char and get the details just right I suggest you try there. Screenshot the slider settings each time before you click 'create' and once youre satisfied use the saved settings on your main account.

I never thought of that, which is a great idea... however, that works for PC players... but I don't think console players can use the PTS without having a PC account, correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, one thing that bugs me is when you go through a lengthy process to create a character, only to have it NOT look exactly the same way once in the game. Some sliders are definitely bugged... eyebrow level for example. If you adjust it to make it look even in the character create screen, it will be uneven in the game... you have to allow it to be slightly uneven (centered) in the create screen so it will turn out even in-game. Weird stuff like that... or voices... you think they sound great and then you get into the game and find they make all sorts of noises that sound nothing like you expected.

It might be the lighting. The Cold Harbor environment makes things look off. Same with colors.

It shouldn't really be that much of an inconvenience. We are allowed to have quite a few characters, and I'm not sure why you'd want to delete them super fast.

Well, lighting in the character creator and lighting outside doesn't impact the fact that the eyebrow slider is skewed incorrectly between creator and outside of it. ;)

No idea, personally Ive never noticed anything being wrong with the eyebrows. The last time I played around with the CC everything looked fine:

The eyebrows arent all perfectly symmetrical by design.

Agreed. I've played since beta and the game had a big issue with bots that were clogging up every public dungeon and goldfarmers that were just everywhere lol. ZoS took a number of steps to try to prevent it and this was one of them.
