How to 'use' whistle and phial of tranquility

I never see an on screen [X] , and trying to get to the Inventory-> quest_items-> right mouse ->'use' option takes way too long.
What am I missing. I have been killing Zombie, Skeletons, whatever in the Wrothgar daily quest.
But nothing. Same for the Torzar whistle quest...

In most of these quests you have to weaken the mob before you can use it. It's kind of tricky when you have multiples, so best to try and find single mobs. Do some damage and then you should see the indicator to press X or whatever to use the Phial. You never use these items from your inventory. And in some cases, a little damage is all you need, in others, you almost have to kill them, which can be a fine a line to walk.

In some cases you have to kill the mobs, then use the items, but your Journal will tell you that. Usually it will say something like Corpses. Also, make sure you are in the Blue quest area as you probably won't trigger the conditions if your not.

yes it can be very tricky,
especially when some random person decides you need help and keeps killing the zombies... lol...

you need to beat them till their health is below half,
then the option will present itself.

beware for using dots on quests like this,
they tend to kill the zombies before you can press x.

The only time I have seen that [X] is on the run to meet Molag Bal. This evening I spent an hour in the 'kill zone' killing everything in sight. No [X]. But, I had killed the boss before I tried any of the minions, but that should make no difference.This run I killed slowly, watching for the [X]. The heavyset ghouls in the last room 'sizzled' with red sparks on the arms as they lay on the floor dead for a few seconds, but no X.

A small success. I managed to use the Durzog whistle, by mistake. I put the sight on a durzog that I had not aggro'ed and missed the '3' key and hit the 'e' key below. The durzog passively turned and walked up to me, than attacked. But the quest was over.
Now I will have to wait for the "Free Spirits" quest to come around on a daily...

At first, I was confused when I saw this thread, because there is clearly an indication to Press E (or whatever your action keybind is set to) during these specific steps in such quests. Today, however, I saw this during one of Wrothgar's daily delve quests:



Normally, it's supposed to show you which key to press to the left of the text. Has anyone else experienced this?

Figured out
in Orsinium, there is no [X]. For both of these use the action key. With the phial, 2(swing)->'E'(phial)->2->'E'->2-.'e' .... repeat
