As the title states, I cannot figure out why I can't play the game with my Xbox One controller, is there something I'm missing or have to do to start playing with it? It is a PowerA controller but despite this Windows 10 is still picking it up

    For the game to recognize the controller, you need to activate the Controller Support Beta (or something like that).
    Its an option that is NOT in the Controls option. I gess its in the Gameplay options. Can't really remmember. Im not at home at now.
    Then, on my case, I have to restart the game, coz it wont automatically start working mid game.

    Try setting it to enabled in your config file for the game.
    1. go to: Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live..
    2. Find UserSettings.txt, and open it.
    3. Then ctrl+f and look for GamepadPreferredEnabled. (it might be at the very top)
    4. Ensure it's set to 1, or look like below;
    5. SET GamepadPreferredEnabled "1"
    6. Then try logging in and retesting.
