He could have been a *** but chose not to be - there are decent players out there to make up for the ****s you meet.

For all I know I probably unintentionally steal chests and nodes all of the time. I never actively collect them, or look for them, but if I happen across them and if I'm not busy I'll pick them up, except I never recall looking to see if other players are nearby and in combat at the time. Likewise, I'm not sure if anyone's stolen a chest or node from me for the same reason; perhaps someone has but I've never connected the dots.
It's like that time I found out leaving worms in plant nodes was apparently an incourteous action because it keeps the node from respawning and luring people to try and pick up the node to find out there's only worms left in it, or that time I apparently offended a group of people when I killed a world boss to clear the area without realizing people nearby were waiting for their friend to get there first.
There must be like some secret MMO code of honor or respect that me and my ignorance keep trampling on without realizing it. People in-game must think I'm a jerk.

I was soloing a dolmen, just wrapping up the last monster and some yutz wandered in and grabbed 3 of the pinions and hogged the final pinion as I finished the boss fight. What a loser. It would be trivial to deter this sort of thing, just make nodes and chests that are in range of mobs "owned" by anyone fighting them with say a 30s cool down timer. If you don't harvest the node/chest 30s after the fight ends then it's up for grabs.

Wait.... Leaving worms in plants.... Makes them not respawn???? Omg. Looks like I owe a crap ton of players and bots in cold Harbour an apology. So here goes... Me is sorry! Never knew that. Well you live and learn I Guess.
They should add a duel option on the chest/node when 2 players go for it at same time.

When I see someone fighting mobs in Wrothgar by an ancestor silk I watch to see if they move on. For some reason some people don't grab these.
It's an open world chest that has items of little value in them.
If someone steals it from you while you are fighting an npc just move on and find the next one. Getting upset over it will only hurt you in the long run.

I respectfully disagree.
The real value in the chests is the chance of finding a treasure map and THAT has a better chance of a rare drop.

and the value in finding a treasure map is a non-issue. The items from a treasure map chest are about as valuable as selling ice to an Eskimo. Non of it is worth getting worked up over it and arguing in zone chat.
Pangnirtung wrote: »I think that we have all come across the chest thief. That's the character that for whatever reason believes that any chest is fair play even the ones that are protected by NPCs that are currently fighting someone else for the chest.
That has happened to me before and the most interesting explanation for it in zone chat was that the character was "role playing' a thief. Fair enough.
Earlier this morning in Wrothgar there was a chest in a cove that was protected by a giant and a mammoth. The chest was impossible to get to without fighting both so I proceeded to do so.
After the battle lo and behold what should I find but another player opening the chest. Grrrr.
Fair is fair I thought so I proceeded to follow him on his chest circuit. I watched him as he looted a chest while a nearby player fought an ogre for it.
I continued to follow or rather race him around Wrothgar until he came upon a chest protected by two black bears. While he was busy battling the bears on top of the chest I looted the chest. Damn that felt good!
Of course I don't intend to do that again but then fair is fair if you're gonna roleplay a thief.
