is fishing profitable , can it be profitable ? what are the chances at these "rare" fish and where do you catch them?

Fishing is not profitable for the green or blue fish, it is kinda profitable if you get Perfect Roe when filleting your white fish.

Depends on how much you value your time. Some people find fishing mind numbingly boring so no amount of fishing is worth the time to gold ratio. Other people like it and fish to get the perfect roe. Sometimes they make Psijiic Abrosia to sell and sometimes they just sell the perfect roe. It's all about preference.

Any white fish can be filleted with a chance to get 'perfect roe', which are used to make xp pots, so there is money to be made from fishing........

However if the great God's of RNG hate you, filleting for roe can be a thankless task, over many months of filleting I believe the general opinion of a drop rate of around 1 perfect roe per 100 fish filleted to be fairly accurate.......

Sometimes I get way more, sometimes way less. :)

First time I got a perfect roe was after 237 fish. Then it came after about 30 more and then again about 70 after.

    In short, RNG sucks sometimes!

And after you fillet hundreds of fish to get your Perfect Roe, there is the issue of what to do with all the fish. :s You won't likely sell much, unless someone hates to fish and needs a food that calls for fish. If you have the recipes and other ingredients, you can cook and sell the food to a vendor. v10 and v15 fish recipes sell each food for 5g, so a stack of fish from a top level provisioner will yield 4k gold, minus any cost for other ingredients. It's a dull way to earn gold, but 4k gold is not insignificant.

ok so how much does perfect roe sell for ? this does seem a really pointless thing to do unless your farming the achievements , its a shame they should make skills like this profitable !

I agree, they should make fishing more profitable.

Last time I checked, which was a long time ago, Perfect Roe sold for about 12k each. I'm sure that has changed since then, so hopefully somebody else has a better grasp of the prices.

As far as the general NPC market value goes fishing is quite profitable considering what must be done to fish. It isn't the most profitable thing but it isn't exactly a waste of time regardless. The player market is only the most profitable because you can make thousand, tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands off the right items whereas the highest possible gold obtained by selling an item to an NPC is, to my knowledge, fencing an epic stolen treasure for 750 gold.

Fished a ton on 2 accounts, this is about how the RNG has treated me.

As a coworker likes to say "Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you"

I find that a little fishing, and an adult beverage or 2, is quite relaxing after a days work though ;)

    Your mileage may very B)

Edit: The expert on fishing is @MissBizz perhaps she could lend some advice

I enjoy fishing, as it gives a nice break from the hacking and slashing

Whether or not it is "profitable" depends on what kind of profit you want.
Fishing will ultimately give you dyes and a title, which are valued highly by those of us who like "vanity". But when it comes to fiscal profits, it's a long haul. You can sell the green and blue fish you catch for an okay amount of gold, but the real profit is found through filleting and getting perfect roe - but like others have stated: RNG.

    So my advice would be:
Fish if you enjoy it, and would like the achievements, and let the actual profit side of it just be a bonus
