Coming back to ESO after hiatus - Need advice.

Hey folks, Tastes-New-Blood here.

I left ESO shortly before IC came out, and I've decided to come back and check things out. I'm a healing-focused templar in both PvP and PvP. Back in the day, I was consistently in the Top 100 overall, and usually in the top 20 Templars. Trolling the forums for a little while has revealed that not much has changed (Lag, broken mechanics, etc.). I guess I'm asking: what do I need to do to get my Templar healer up to snuff?

1. What is the most efficient method for leveling from V14 to V16? (feel free to message me about this one if you don't want your favorite grind spot to get nerfted.)
2. What gear/sets should I be running for PvP heals?
2a. Is 5pc light armor viable when running in group PvP? Or will I still get killed very quickly?
3. Did any Templar heals/RestoStaff/Support abilities get nerfed into the ground?
4. Do I need to adopt any abilities that were previously meh?

I'm looking for general advice here. Once I fall in with a capable group, I'm sure they can help me out with the specifics.

Thanks in advance,
-C0pp3rhead

5 piece light armor is fine, but you should go heavy on chest. It's a personal preference of mine, but the templars I see doing well also run it - I'd recommend sword and board over DW. The extra spell dmg isn't worth it imo. For sets, in pvp, templars in kag's hope is just too useful to run anything else. Most go 5 kags, 3 willpower jewelry. For the rest, people run a smattering of 1 piece molag kena, 1 piece blood spawn, magnus, seducer, etc. It really depends on where you want your regen to be.

The only templar ability that has been 'nerfed' is toppling charge - the animation is bugged again and will sometimes lock your bar for a few seconds.

For leveling, imperial city is pretty empty, so that might be a good option. Orisinium is the alternative, and you won't have to worry about the 90% nb population perma cloaking in IC :)

    1. Do all quests in Wrothgar.
    2. Kagrenac's Hope
    3. Very viable; damage overall is decreased by 50% in Cyrodiil. Usually you don't die quickly, at least I don't, unless its 10v1 or something.
    4. Not that I know of, most people just auto run into walls and spam BoL, that usually gets the job done.
    5. Hopefully an experienced templar healer will help you here, but I haven't seen most of my healers change much. I have noticed Rapid Regen used more now than Mutagen though.

    Hope that helps!

    Welcome back!

Awesome. This is the sort of advice I need. Heavy on chest is not just a preference, it's a superior setup. My off-bar is already S&B. It's kindof necessary for healers when you're getting focus-fired. Also, Zheg I might msg you in-game (currently downloading everything). I was running around with DaSandman and Brave before I left. I'm hoping I still have some friends running around. Can you put me in touch with any reliable Templars?

I'm on blue VE, not the old red VE. Can certainly connect you with some of our healers to help you brainstorm your build. If you're looking to stay red, I'm sure bulb or steve could be of help in finding you a good home :)

On red, the better templars to talk to are the usual suspects like walks.

Right on. I ran with Bulba for a bit before my break. I'll holler at him.

You always struck me as an intelligent poster. Glad to see you back

    1. Wrothgar quests are easy and the story/content of the DLC are really good so I'd recommend that. AS far as grinds, if your faction has access to locked IC, that's about as good as it gets.
    2. PVP Krag's Hope + whatever you prioritize as far as regen / spell damage / stam
    3. Yes, damage/healing has been cut from 20% to 50%. I'd recommend sword + shield instead of dual swords for added protection.
    4. Support abilities? No. Something is up with Radiant Destruction damage (it sometimes ticks without execute bonus) and it is now dodgable so you'll probably hate that skill more than the people you target. I am of the belief with the much higher spellpower rating out there and the mutlipliers flying around, wielding a resto staff is a pretty bid sacrifice - I lose about 600 damage. To me that's a nerf when looking at how things were balanced when you left in 1.6. Eclipse also is no kind of worthless since it's only one target eligible.
    5. ZoS only nerfs stuff so, no, I don't think there are any hidden gems people discovered since you left, at least as far as templars are concerned. You might want to check out the two healing sets in the IC: both are really good for PvE and if u are not tasked to rez in your group, they do offer nice bonuses to your teammates.

    Thanks a bundle, @Joy_Division
Always been a fan of your contributions.

I need to check out IC anyways - just hoping I can find a group for it. Word on the street is that it's pretty dead.
Healing is usually my forte in PvP, so I'll end up going Krag's Hope and figure out the Jewelry/Weapon situation later. My off bar is already S&B since Templars don't have the easiest time escaping from fights. The resto staff I keep around mostly for combat prayer and healing springs. Those two are a must have in many situations. I am still confused as to why the devs decided dual wield spell power should be greater than when wielding a staff.
And yes, I am fully aware of Zos' fondness for Nerfs.

Also, I just learned about the Shield Breaker set, so I'll have to think twice about slotting my Sun Shield.
IMO, that set is a pretty crappy band-aid fix - they could have increased the power of other class shields or simply tweaked a few OP shields. Instead they punish everyone. *Sigh*

You should only have to go from 15-16 if you played as long as it sounds like you did before your break as you will have a lot of saved xp that pops you to 15 straight away. 15-16 will fly past with all your saved enlightenment so that's the easy bit. Do it in Wrothgar or grind IC and you should have it in a matter of hours. The hard bit will be gearing up as v16 gear is damn expensive. Make a set of v15 to start with as it takes a loss less mats and isn't a lot worse as a gap filler.

Oh yeah, I meant to ask. What EP guilds are running capable 24-person groups?

I honestly am not sure how many GOS runs (@zazeer) but they may be best option if you're looking for 24 man raids specifically. Haxus runs at about 12-16 on most nights. (@hektlk)

Other EP guilds worth mentioning include Hijinx (@nobodycris) and Dynamic (@violentfoxx)

Most nights GoS is running 12 to 16. With that said, we are recruiting full time healers. Whisper @Vortexman11 for information.

Ugh. I am not surprised. Aside from bugs & class balance issues, this was one of the reasons for why I quit. GG yall. GG.

I hadn't been on in a couple of months, and holy sheogorath are you right. Even with one alliance at two bars. Crazy bad lag, the likes of which Tamriel has never seen. Well, back to fallout!
