Resto/Destr Staves and Spell Power

ZOS, can you please explain why equipping the Resto and Destr staves reduces spell power so greatly compared to DW or two-handers ? Is this intended or simply a bug that you have never fixed? I guess I am trying to understand why developers would want us to take a hit with our spell power when using the staves of those two schools, instead equipping two one-handers or a two-hander.

Please change this, as it makes no sense at all, it's long overdo. In addition to that change, please let all two-handed weapons, including staves, count as TWO slots for set bonus purposes. Again, game design that makes no sense at all. An oversight perhaps? Or known poor game design ?

Thanks !

it's inteded, and yes i agree with you that it's kinda stupid. on the other hand, beeing a melee should give you some advantage over range, especially since everything ZOS designed since IC was extemely favoring ranged-builds.

Yeah making spell power scale off of weapon power as a rule is silly.

I always thought the most powerful of mages needed not such mundane things as even a staff to be powerful, but it would seem that they're just being silly and should've been holding two maces instead. :|

Do you know why it is intended? I'm not doubting you at all, I am just wondering the reason and where they addressed it. I have to disagree with your melee comment though. I do ranged damage using a two-hander or dual wield, so that specific theory doesn't really fit the reason why.

I can see what you are getting at with your ranged vs melee theory though, it makes sense to me as well I suppose. The problem is that you can use ranged class skills with dual wield or two-hander. If that theory was the case wouldn't ZOS say you can't use ranged attacks with dual-wield and two-handers?

It's much more difficult to weave light/heavy attacks with a melee weapon as a caster. So, net DPS loss is typically not as bad as it seems.

Plus, battle mages are lore friendly.

Because you can weave attack at range with staff. Most magicka dps still use a staff on main dps spam bar, DW only for a small exe range.
