Question about the 4 confirmed updates and the removal of veteran ranks

The 4 confirmed updates are the thieve's guild, the dark brotherhood, the Clockwork city and the new zone in black marsh - Murkmire http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Murkmire.

What i want to ask is that wikipedia states clearly that with the dark brotherhood update which will be in early 2016 the veteran ranks will be removed, what does that mean exactly, that we will get normal levels instead going up to 66 and later 100? or something different?

Read under The Dark Brotherhood http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_Online

''The Dark Brotherhood expansion was announced at an event at Quakecon 2015. It will contain the Dark Brotherhood guild, many hours of story content, a new skill line, the removal of Veteran Ranks, and many more features. Not much is known yet, but it will release in Q1 2016.''

Sounds like someone is spreading rumors to me as Zenimax has not given a scheduled time that Vet Ranks will be removed on. Not to my knowledge anyway as last I heard they are still working out the details of the removal.

And i hope they will never do, the system is good as it is. To do such a massive change to the game, can destory it completly. The most major changes like this other MMOs did in the past, were not for the good. Zeni think about, why you should change it. The reasons people complain about it a year ago, have changed.

When I went to Quakecon the said they planned to do it but wanted to make sure they did it right so there wasn't a time frame for that to happen. That was way back at the end of July and I think they were kicking ideas around about how this was going to be done. I know this isn't much help but I haven't seen any official word yet anywhere. I can see a lot of ways removing vet ranks could p*ss people off, so careful thought is required if they don't want people to rage quit.

It's true that Wikipedia is made by the users for the users and thus can be inaccurate at any given time but it isn't always falsified information. In this case though, it's safe to say them saying VRs are leaving with DB is exaggerated.

The info we do know is champion points were a part of the phased approach.
We know they still plan to remove VR in 2016
We know ZOS hasn't mentioned a new leveling system
We know nothing of any proposed thoughts to raise the base level above 50

Most logical and easiest (IMO) to implement. Gear should scale of something if they remove the ranks, so my guess is that it will be a combination of Champion Points (=for example more power), Attribute Points (=for example more regen or crit) and Materials (=for example more resistance).

I'm not sure if you all are looking at how negatively this type of adjustment would be.

The biggest complaint right now is Champion Points and how they work, or what others cant see, etc.
Especially in PvP....so doing this basically opens up any character on any account to equip high gear. When VR goes away, items need to continue to follow the character level as it does today. Keep it simple

The best approach would not to in any way link Champion Points to anything other than how it works today.

True, but the stats on the gear wouldn't be so high on a new character as it is now on a max level character. Maybe CP shouldn't be taken into consideration, as they are available on alts as well. But Attributes would be a possibility, as an alt doesn't have max attributes at start and therefore the gear would scale with lower stats.

Edit: For example Hunding's Rage set would scale of stamina points in new system. At start 1 point into stamina equals 6 extra weapon damage, at level 50 that would be 300 extra weapon damage (if you have all 50 points put into stamina).

Why not just give a level cap of say, level 80? That's a bit lower exp wise than vr16, and gives people a sense of normal levelling, just make it so you can earn CP from day one.

I.e a new character gets around 150 cp by level 80 with the catch up mechanic.

A vet character above the mechanic gets less

    Normal level progression

Simple system that has worked for generations of mmos.

    today you do this....
look at item, look at item level requirement, highlight item and view char sheet.

Thats how basic it should be and stay the same.
Removing VR levels doesn't change any of that and offers benefits to having higher items but detaches what VR limits today.
CP's seek to offer another way to have a sense of separation and so while I do not agree with the CP cap in place I do see how both removal of VR and a CP cap would cause concerns.

In the end...there shouldn't be a CP cap for everything but this cap should apply to leader-boards and PvP only.

So how should we deal with the different veteran levels that gear is now? That's what is changing and should be taken into account somehow.

I'm not trying to establish separation or a sense of elitism, but if people have farmed hundreds of Ancestor Silk, Rubedite or Rubedo Leather to make a V16 set and their set will be the same as one crafted with lesser materials (after VR removal) I can assure you that a lot of them will leave the game.

Just because the ranks are removed, doesn't mean the gear created with rarer mats will be less powerful. It just means that anyone will be able to wear it. What I think they may do though is assign some new effects to certain mats, a bit like traits but with a broader reach. That way, the rarer mats will be more powerful, but each mat group will also have its own benefits for everyone who has reached Level 50.

The items from VR1 - VR16 produce items whose base stats are better by tier.
The items alone progress regardless of VR level.
The VR level is only used as a restriction to wear or use an item.

Any loot, crafting, etc would not loose it base stats and effectiveness in anyway, the only loss would be the level restriction indicated today by a VR level. Now instead it would show level 50 so everyone is still just as strong and as powerful as before.

No one looses anything nor do they gain anything.

There was something on some fansite about PVP in PVE areas.

What does the removal of veteran ranks mean?
Skyshards... each one now worth 1 skill point?
No more Cadwell's Silver or Gold?
    Overworld PVP?
Prepare for hordes of Pact, Dominion, and Covenant horseman raiding the noob areas going after faction leaders?

The problem with this idea is that, since champion points are account wide, a fresh level 50 character for someone with a high amount of champion points will automatically get access to the same tier items that a character they've spent over a year on, and wit the catch up mechanic if they tie it to the champion points earned by a specific character it will screw over people with high amounts since they won't be able to gear up their newer characters nearly as fast as older ones.

That, and it starts to really complicate things, because you're not getting rid of Veteran Ranks at all, but are not making them "Champion Ranks". Assigning item/gear values to Champion Ranks just makes the mechanic far more complex and really changes little to nothing except for the title of the level.

ZOS would be better off to continue making adventure zones, removing Cadwell's Gold and making leveling a more meaningful endeavor. It doesn't matter if you're VR16 or Level 65 if the gear translates well enough.

I've only been playing since the spring so I don't don't know what issues there were/are with vet ranks. To be honest, I have much pride in my v16 Dunmer DK. It took a lot of work to get to that point and I'm proud of how well he turned out in the end. Can somebody please explain why it's so important that Vet Ranks be removed because I don't get it! I'm more of the opinion that Champ points should be removed. That system seemed flawed and doomed to failure from the beginning but I'm not looking to start an argument over it, just stating an opinion.

no they still suck and are a redundant grind esp with the addition of the CP system. on top of the fact that they continue to remove viable grinding locations forcing people to play the game in a very rigid and predictable manner that may or may not be fun or entertaining.

If Vr ranks are reduced to 400k xp per level it would be acceptable to leave them as they now require the same amount of XP as a champion point.
    Being redundant purposefully is dumb.
Zhoyzu - Nightblade Alchemist (v15) RETIRED
    Has-No-Heart - Templar Enchanter (v4) FUBAR
Ambadassador - Dragon knight (v1) Naked with no future (returned from the naked realm to tank PvE)
Sakis Tolis - Sorceror (v10 in progress) Living Legend!

Xuhl'Xotuun - Warden Current Main as im starting the game over essentially with this character aside from crafting.

Creator of Khajiit fall dmg reduction racial passive concept.

After 50 gear will be tied to champion points some how.

The problem with this idea is that, since champion points are account wide, a fresh level 50 character for someone with a high amount of champion points will automatically get access to the same tier items that a character they've spent over a year on, and wit the catch up mechanic if they tie it to the champion points earned by a specific character it will screw over people with high amounts since they won't be able to gear up their newer characters nearly as fast as older ones.

    exactly....
