Character Classes?

Why do we have to have these? It would be a lot better if you just learned skills and abilities from using them or learning them from a teacher or book..
I don't want to be labeled a Templar or a dragon knight... It feels forced to be something you may not like , hope the next elder scrolls single player game doesn't have classes

IIRC, the only TES game that didn't have classes was Skyrim, so really it's Skyrim that went against the TES grain in that field. Thus why I have no issues with classes existing as we're not restricted to certain gear setups and can use whatever we want. The ONLY difference in classes are the three skill lines specific to them, nothing else.

The problem with multiplayer games is balance. In solo games, it doesn't matter, but a MMO goes dead pretty quick if everyone starts to cherry-pick their skills to run the same super-effective build. Thus building a MMO without classes to limit this is much, much harder, and evidently they decided not to take the chance.

As for TES, well, as mentioned, all TES games had classes, though they did indeed mean a bit less there then here, as every class could in theory end up leaning every available skill or spell (it was just way harder for some). Solo game, remember? Didn't matter.
Only Skyrim did away with the class system, and ESO has been bereft with people who know none other, and labour under the faulty impression that ESO ought to be skyrim-online...

    That said...
Yes, it would be cool to have a MMO game where you had complete freedom to build your character. But that would require a quite different setup, and in any case, that ship has sailed and sunk ages ago.
Keep the thought for if they ever make Fallout-Online... ;)

if there would be a fallout online then the oceans would flood with the cries of the fanbois. cause Fallout has way more skills/perks that you can't implement well in a MMO. so it wouldn't work. cause afterall fallout is more a RPG then a shooter ;)
