Double nerfs to skills question

The patch notes for imperial city say:

Several abilities which have damage, damage shield, or healing components that scale off each other will no longer be hit multiple times by Battle Spirit’s reductions. This includes the following abilities:
Nightblade: Strife (and morphs), Soul Tether
Templar: Puncturing Sweep, Blazing Shield, Radiant Glory
Dragonknight: Inhale, Burning Embers
Sorcerer: Surge
Mages Guild: Degeneration
Restoration Staff: Healing Ward

Does anyone know exactly what this means? For example, burning embers. Does the battle spirit buff not apply to the damage? Does it not apply to the healing part of it?

    in your case it directly applies to the dmg and thus indirectly is applied to the healing effect.
    prior to the change the dmg was reduced by 50% and on top the resulting heal was reduced by 50% aswell leaving it at 25% of its prior value. thus would deliver a 75% heal reduction, so the reduction on depending effects of skills has been undone. granting them the 50% reduction by reducing the effect(dmg, shield value) they depend on.

    Okay so just to clarify, the damage on burning embers is reduced by 50% but you still get healed for 36% of the damage dealt?
