help with race choice for Stamina nightblade

Powerpeach
Hi Community,

I need your help.

Im about to lvl my 3rd character to vr16 and want to start a stamina nightblade.

I started one the other day and freaked out that If I ever wanted to try magicka on this character I wouldn’t be able to because I choose Redguard and the passives don’t work that well.

So im thinking of going imperial as I can switch between both roles, but I worry about sustain as tried stamina before on my Breton sorc and was starved of stamina all the time. Ended up going back to magicka.

If I choose to go imperial with 220 champion points am I going to struggle with sustain ? or do the racial passives of being a nightblade (30% stam regen) balance the build ?

I hope this makes sense and I understand it comes down to playstyle but want to try and get the most out of the build before I start.

I wanted to go full damage on rings also so I can get over 4k weapon damage mark.

Please let me know your thoughts and how much recovery is needed for pvp and if imperial will work on this many champion points.

Thanks in advance

Try to decide what you really want. If you need stamina NB redguard/bosmer/imperial/(and may be orcimer or khajit) will be good. If you want to switch between magika and stamina choose dunmer.

Racial passives really come into play when you are trying to min/max a build, and also vary in effectiveness when it comes to your desired play style.

I know stamblades in each of the races above and they all do really well, mostly due to the players skill though, not reliant on their race. I am a Nord stamblade (chose it when I started cause I had no idea what I was doing and have not wanted to level another toon) my racial passives don't help me out with stamina sustain, crit damage, sneak damage, et, etc and I still am able to do really well. Most ppl are very confused when they find out I am a Nord.

If you want to switch back and forth between magic and stam then imperial might be a good choice as it has well rounded passives but again will stop you from min/maxing in either one.

For stamina, personally I would go either redguard or bosmer depending on what style of play you want to engage in, both are very strong stamina nb races. Imperial, orc and especially Khajiit are also very popular races and do well with stamina nb setups.

I know its not a black and white answer, but the truth is unless you are looking to min/max which means not switching back and forth between magic and stam, then there are alot of options that work and truthfully other factors such as gear, skills, passives, cp, play style and player ability play a much larger role in whether or not you will be successful or not.

    Redguard for outright, flat damage.

    Khajit for crit build

I'm a Khajiit magicka nightblade. I have no problems with sustain. I just wish the crit passive worked for spell crit too :(

Like others have said above, Imperial is the best all arounder followed by Dunmer. Bosmer and R edguard make great stamblades. Breton and Altmer make great magblades.

I'd have to agree. Imperial has the health bonus and red diamond, but the sustain of Redguard is hard to ignore, and crit builds got a big boost with crit multiplers getting fixed in Orsinium.

Imperial for all around versatility, Redguard for straight sustained single target DPS, Khajiit for burst/crit. I have an imperial that I play both magic and stam depending on my mood and the most recent patch. I am currently using her for the arena as a magic build. I like being able to change back and forth personally.

As a magic build, I dont have has much magic as a breton or altmer would, but the extra health and stam are nice in arena.

As a stam build, I dont sustain as well as a redguard, but once you hit about 250 CP or so, it's not nearly as much of an issue. The actual damage is the same between the two, a redguard can just do it for longer.

In summary, if you want a ganker, go Khajiit. If you want a trials PVE monster and have no intention of going magic, go redguard. If you want some flexibility, go imperial. There really isnt a wrong choice.

    What about bosmer?

Bosmer doesnt make my list. They get the most stam regen in combat, but that doesnt affect DPS. They theoretically might be good for dualing or something when you really want a lot of regen. Their other passives are useful at times I suppose, but pretty much only in PVP. You need to keep in mind that increasing stamina directly impacts damage as stamina abilities scale of weapon damage and total stamina.

Looking at the relevant passives to a stam build:

Imperial - Boost to two major resources, health and stam. Increasing Stam directly increases DPS, Health gives survivability. Health also means you will never need to put points into anything but stamina, although that is true of most end-game builds.

Redguard - Boost to Stam and Stam regen. Same stamina (Damage) increase imperial gets, also gets a boost to sustain. This is why they are probably better for the straight glass cannon DPS build. If you compare to an imperial, they will be squishier, hit for the same damage, and sustain longer.

Khajiit - They get higher crit and more Stam/Health regen. Again, I like the idea her for PvP. The will crit more often than a redguard or imperial (better burst), but their base damage will not be as high because their stamina pool will be lower. Sustain will be similar to a redguard (slightly higher recover, lower stat pool).

Bosmer - Best in combat stam regen. Not terrible, but I think the others are better. None of the bonuses directly impact DPS.

The one question that might need a mathematician to answer is under what scenarios the Crit increase from Khajiit trumps the Stam increase from imperial or redguard. These are really the only 2 passives that directly impact DPS. Historically the raw stam was better, but depending on CP allocation and the recent buffs to crit damage, it is certainly possible that is no longer the case.

    Ok Thanks for the advice,

I went imperial as i felt that you could switch easy between magicka and stamina and it will give the most DPS for stamina end game.

Thanks for all the help much appreciated.
