Bad guys are more fun! :dizzy:

My main is a vampire and an evil ba..illegitimate sort of guy. However, not all the time - it depends on his mood at the time. Not all my characters are bad guys, though. I tend to play a mixture of good, bad and indifferent.
RIP Atherton, my beautiful little gentle friend. I will miss you forever. Without you I am a hollow shell.

In online games such as ESO people can become what they are probably too afraid or ashamed to be in real life, sometimes even trying to mend things or release anger with the help of their character. Yes, deep stuff, all the feels in the air xD.

Not so much ashamed as afraid. If they tried any of the crap they pull online in real life they'd either get slaughtered on the spot or arrested.

My character is almost always a good guy. Almost, cause at the end of the Mages Guild storyline I traded Valaste for Folium Discognitum. Felt morally bad about that but 2 skill points.... who wouldn't do that for 2 skill points? Aaach perhaps she is happy with Sheogorath now.

I just don't understand the need to play a bad guy. My life has enough darkness in it already. Why would I want to add such to my escape?

This doesn't mean that I play a goodie two shoes as pilfering happens. Just have to draw the line.

i wouldn't say i play a bad guy perse, im pretty ruthless to the enemies in cyrodill but i honestly had a crisis at some of the quest disicions (mages guild for instance). i do ussually hear their story out and depending i let my morals guide my choice. I ussually do not spare traitors but can be mild in other cases.

I agree and it is the same reason for me to play as the good girl, gaming is an escape, and at least there I want things to be good...

I'm chaotic good IRL, but my game characters tend to be chaotic neutral. I always set out to be an evil conqueror in games, but can't ever commit to it... except in Star Wars games, because the Dark Side is so much cooler.

Situational choice for me in games. Never go out of my way to be the 'bad guy, although from time to time I'll choose the dark path'. I love games with choices & consequences.
Certainly do not tie any in game actions with real life, as these are games & nothing more.

I play according to my character idea. Different for each character, some are very good and honorable, one might be a very bad girl (its a vampire thing...) most are somewhere in between...

Part of the fun for me I suppose, imagining how this or that character would make that quest choice... the ruthless mercenary bunty huntress? Go for the money. The stalward orc templar? Go for rightousness. The naive librarian? Go for whatever seems wisest. The pious priestess? Go for the good choice. The thunder priest? Go for honor. The vampiress? Go for the evil choice. The argonian? Go with the flow. The Huntress? Go for whatever works...

Personally I ahve to say, both the "always good" -and- the "always bad" characters are the most boring... the ones where I have to consider more then a eyeblink, where I have to reclal their backstory and put all the choice consequences in light of their personal history to come up with the "what would -character name- do"... those are the fun ones!

Great post! And you are right. People tend to play the opposite of who they truly are in real life. That is why I play the worst evilest character possible in all games.

In pvp versus enemy factions(I only play EP so far) I guess I could be considered 'the bad guy' but to my Guildies and friends I'll drop whatever time I have to help them, to be fair I'll even help an enemy if I think they need it.

yup pretty evil in games, also there are questlines in ESO that i wished that you could side with the bad guy likes faulchu or even side with the main big bad in the tes games like molag bal, mehrunes dagon, alduin or dagoth ur.

The ebony blade in skyrim really got to me because it gives you a simple task (betray and murder 10 of your friends) and leaves it up to you to go about carrying it out. I've never been as sociopathic and evil in a computer game before

That was the quest that truly turned off my internal moral compass for games. It does give you a very, very good sword at the end though, so it really depends on how far you're willing to go for it :P

I personally dislike that the choice is usually good or evil in games. Karma systems seem so false and forced. I love the InFamous franchise but the whole good/evil thing just seems artificial. Life is lived within the gray shades of uneasy choices.

One of the things I enjoy so much about the Elder Scrolls franchise the ability (or the seeming ability) to play in-between good and evil. Some of the best quests in ESO involve decisions that are neither right or wrong choice.

Personally I wish there were more ways to make different choices in ESO. Like... it would be nice if more quests, or more quest lines, provided a way to choose to not help the particular quest giver. The long-term effects could simply be the tonal attitude the quest giver has toward you at the end of the quest and afterwards. Do they regard you as a confidant and friend or an enemy they must reluctantly use as a means to an end.
