I believe Heavy Armor needs some love. Right now I believe 5 or more heavy armor is reserved for PvE tanks only. As a primary PvE tank since launch, I've always worn heavy. Even when "put on a dress and grab your stick" was the meta. I will always wear heavy but feel like there is a big uphill battle when it comes to PvP (as a magicka DK).

Mainly I would like your input.
Do you wear any heavy in PvP? Do you feel properly balanced wearing 5+ heavy in PvP?

So, as a magicka DK / tank, you want the best of both worlds with no drawbacks?

Everyone has to choose, or rather balance between sustain and survivability. Much of that can be offset by CP's, also.

There should be benefit and downside to all armor types. This is the uphill battle you are facing, and it's not unreasonable.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

There should be a balance between damage, sustain and mitigation. You are absolutely right. The question is if that balance is there. My opinion is the balance is not there. My suspicion is that a quick look around at successful PvP builds would point that out.

I wear full heavy armor but it is no way balanced and not as in OP but horrible laughable under powered and needs a total rework to be valid just as dragon knights and Templars. Like I saved up 5,000 TVS and leveled up my medium armor to 50 just to use shield breaker in PvP just to not only survive in pvp cause rolling and shields have been proven best defense in the game but to just get one kill from a guy abusing the broken mechanic of shield stacking.

Next time making a poll make sure you add a option for all choices cause 5+ HA maybe a good choice for PvE does in no way mean it's any good in PvP.

For stam, I always go Medium. I mean, have you seen those passives? The passives for HA just never seemed to call out to me in the same way, though I've never tried to be honest.

Depending on the build, but on 4 charactera only the one using drinks instead of food wears 1 heavy for the undaunted passives. Light/medium is much more appealing for the nice regen/cost reduction bonus, so I say no heavy.

Except for player-made sets - at least from what I've seen, none of the drop sets allow for the possibility of a magicka-based heavy wearer which is why I don't use drop sets except when Healing in which case I use the Healer set - which stops at VR14. AndI don't see any of the new VR15/16 sets decently comparable to older sets such as Soulshine, Healers, Vestaments of the Warlock and a few others.

These limitations on drop-sets as well as the inability to craft our own jewelry, make such traditional builds or ideas of a Battle Mage (Sorcerer in Heavy Armor) extremely difficult if not feasibly impossible.

From a roleplay/traditional perspective...a Templar doesn't go around wearing cloth armor. He is a 'Knight of..." take your pick, "Salvation...Healing...God...etc..." and Knights wear heavy armor and typically use a shield/sword. One of my favorite sets, Soulshine, which is ideal for a Templar, only goes to VR10 and if you want the full set bonuses you have to settle for using a couple light armor pieces - which in the end isn't too bad if you can get it in Hands/Waist - but again you are hosed after VR10.

I use all 7 pieces as heavy armour as a Stam DK but I couldn't really say if I think it's balanced or not. I see advantages & disadvantages. I've always thought it is better to stick with one armour type (light / medium / heavy) because many of the passives increase on a 'per piece worn' basis... am I wrong about this? Because I see a lot of players wearing a mixed bag of armour type?

Also, you'd have to use a lot more skill points to get all the passives in 2 or more armour types.. is there an advantage to mixed armour types I am not seeing?

Unless you are maxing out all crafting and all weapon types, there are plenty of SPs to easily master two armor types.

As for the benefits, each type have a 5-piece passive, but no passives that require a 6- or 7-piece set. For the most part, the per piece bonuses after 5 pieces is minimal compared to the bonuses you can get from using two in in another and even more if you have the Undaunted Passive which is based on the number of armor types worn and not the number of pieces.

As a Templar I use 5/2 - Heavy/Light when solo or tanking and Light/Heavy when Healing.

i just hate how at the click of a button someone whos put every skill point into dmg can bring our resistances down to 0.

Really? Didn't know that...only thought it could be reduced, not completely cancelled out.

It can only be reduced. And you can counteract it by using an armor/resistance buff (they have the same value as the enemy debuff).

Change heavy armor to give you back 50% stamina regen while blocking as opposed to zero like everything else. That would keep with the tanky theme, not be overpowered, and help it out.

Unclear what the argument is but I disagree lol

Five heavy is not just for tanks. As a Magicka dk healer I've always preferred 5 Heavy 1 M glove 1 L belt. Anything else just seems like too much of a sacrifice in resistances for minimal resource gains.

Also it is small gains but, with the addition of cp armor focuses, 5 heavy is one of the only ways to get more physical resistance without much tradeoff.
